1. Search the OUCH site (button on left) for a list of recommended M.D.s.

2. Yellow Pages phone book: look for "Headache Clinics" in the M.D. section and look under "neurologist" where some docs will list speciality areas of practice.

3.  Call your hospital/medical center. They often have an office to assist in finding a physician. You may have to ask for the social worker/patient advocate.

4. http://www.achenet.org/physicians/   On-line screen to find a physician.

5. http://www.headaches.org/consumer/index.html Call 1-800-643-5552; they will send a list of M.D.s for your state.I suggest using this source for several reasons: first, we have read several messages from people who, even seeing neurologists, are unhappy with the quality of care and ATTITUDES they have encountered; second, the clinical director of the Jefferson (Philadelphia) Headache Clinic said, in late 1999, that upwards of 40%+ of U.S. doctors have poor training in treating headache and/or hold attitudes about headache ("hysterical female disorder") which block them from sympathetic and effective work with the patient; third, it's necessary to find a doctor who has experience, skill, and a set of attitudes which give hope of success. This is the best method I know of to find such a physician.

I saw Dr Thomas Freedom for several years.  Found hinm to be very knowledgeable, but after he move to Glenbrook I've only seen him once.  He is now head of a sleep disorder clinic, and I don't know if he is taking new HA patients.  I would recommend him highly if he is.

Currently I have seen Dr Rima Dafer (pronounced daf-fer) at Loyola.  She is knowledgeable and was helpful, but is hard to get to see.  After my first appointment she has postponed two, and I cant get in to see her until August.  Fortunately due to Kudzu I don't really need to.

BTW, I just noticed it was your first post.  Welcome aboard!  There is a lot of valuable info available here for you to use, and to take to the Dr with you so that you can help determine your treatment program.  Con't b surprized if it takes some time to get a treatment regimen that will work for you, as what works for one does not necessarily work for another, and CH tends to morph over time so that what worked at one time doesn't at another.    Please feel free to ask questions.  That is why we are here, and there are a lot smarter people than me on this board that can advise you.  I would also suggest that you check out the Oxygen button and try to get O2.  A lot of us have found real relief with it, and it is inexpensive and has no bad side effects.

Please introduce yourself on the getting to know you page.  We would like to get to meet you!

Jerry
