I just received som Mushroom Mycelium Jars from spore works. They have a cotton ball on top which you are supposed to inject the spores through. My question is do you have to take the lid off the jar after the mushrooms colinize or do the mushrooms grow through the cotton ball?

Leave the lid on. Your enemy is mold and mildew. You take the lid off to harvest. Prior to that you should wash your hands and forearms, spray your hands with a disinfectant such as lysol spray. Keep the area around the jars clean. Other that that leave the container closed.
