When purchasing the injections, how many doses does this allow you.

I get the self injecors. They come 2 to a box,  6 mg a shot. My neuro will give me 6 at a time. I can't do the trex tip, where you take it apart and break it into 3.....2mg doses. I'm a needle wimp and have enough trouble giving myself a shot so It's a total of 6 doses for me.

I hope I'm understadning your question! I horde my Trex, refill it as often as I can whether I need it or not so I always have some in reserve.

Guissepi is right, usually a script is for six, two dose vials, but my doc will put a refill or two on it, however there have been many fights with the insurance co over the years because they dont want to allow more than the original script amount in a month.   they dont care that you may be having six or so HAs every night.

I use the imitrex tip on the right and this really makes it last longer.  The needles dont bother me but they do leave alot of bruises on my leg where I inject, because I have to hold the needle in and kind of wiggle it around in ordere to see how  much I am injecting.  I wind up looking like an abused wife or somehting..

good luck,
chrisw

Thanks for the help. I have used the nasal spray before and ran into the same problem with my insurance. Seems like this would be better than the spray though if I can figure out how to do the Imitrex tip.

Any opinions on which lasts longer, injection or pill? The spray seemed to have decent staying power but would only work for me 75% of the time. Wondering if the way you take the imitrex has any bearing on how well it works.

I have had some success with taking a pill before bed, not while I am in the middle of a HA>  the pill combined wiht the other meds I was on would give me a few houre of relief.  The injections seem to work for 2-3 hrs.  However during really intense periods the pill wouldnt work.

What I would usually do is give myself a break every third night or so.  Use O2 only for two nights, and then on the third night allow myself injections.  Using the imtrex tip I would only use one vial of trex, and I would be able to get 4-6 hrs of relief, which meant about 4-6 hrs of sleep, (this is better than nothing).   Of course there would be times when the pain got out of control and O2 wouldnt cut it so I would have to use some trex.

In other words, if you go straight for the trex at every time , you will most likely run out before you can get a refill.  Especially if you use a full dose.

Good luck,
chrisw
