Title: 4 Questions
Post by darkwalker on Apr 14th, 2007, 9:53pm
This forum is gigantic (to me), so I'm going to toss out my 4 questions all at once.

1. Anyone notice a correlation between the new daylight savings time change and CHs?
2. Anyone notice the neck/muscle discomfort on the side of the CH?
3. Anyone know of the effects of cannabis on CHs?
4. Is there a permanent cure?

:-/

1.  Nope.  I've gotten my ass kicked at various times of the year.
2.  Not me.  At least not that I can relate to CH.
3.  The general opinion is that cannabis is not beneficial for CH.  I'm too scared to find out during a cycle.
4.  None known.

1.  No correlation to daylight savings time, but seasonal like clockwork for many years.  (A clock that's winding down, now, thank goodness.)

2.  Yes, like many others.  Look for a soft lump that may form near the base of the skull, the 5th cervical vertebra, or near the 7th cervical vertebra at the junction of the neck with the shoulder.  It's what we call a "cluster lump", in actuality, a swollen nerve ganglion.  It's quite common but by no means universal.

3.  The majority of users seem to report that cannabis is a trigger for headaches in cycle, in much the way that alcohol is a trigger.  There are exceptions--everyone is different.

4.  No.  Only the dirt nap so far as I know.

Best wishes, and welcome.

George

Thanks for the quick replies. I was curious about the time change since the hypothalamus regulates our natural clock. I was wondering if the time change screwed with that.

I get a bad neck spasm with my CHs.

Thanks!

That's 4 questions.  ;)

1. When I was episodic I had Spring and Fall cycles, but I couldn't tell you whether they were at the time of the time changes or not.
2. Yes. I get a terrible spasm that will often turn my head.
3. For me it's neither a trigger or any help.
4. No, but there are lots of very effective treatments and it can be quite manageable. Thing is... everybody's different, so it may take a while to find your most effective ones.

Keep reading, you'll learn lots of good stuff.
pain free wishes, nani

1. No
2. Absolutely
3. Bad effects. See:vasodilator/Viagra
4. Death would be one,but not a first choice.

That's only 4. If the fifth is a psychic thing, I'll pass....unless you just suck at math.

ha ha...well I had 5 then I changed it to four, but my brain doesn't work right sometimes. I do suck at math though.

;;D

So far caffeine is the only thing that works for me as far as stopping the pain. I'm not sure about stopping/shortening the episode. It's really weird, if I were to drink this much DEW/Red Bull/Starbucks outside of an episode, I'd be crawling the walls.  Instead, I'm able to go right to sleep. It's like the CH absorbs it somehow.  :P

#3.  Not proud but I'm a daily smoker.  NOT during a cycle though.  Weed has the same triggering effects as alchohol for me just not as quick to set in.  AVOID IT!!!

I save alot of money by not smoking weed during a cluster (not by choice, lol) but it seems the med companies don't want me to save it.  Instead of giving it to my street drug dealer, the legal one gets it.

:(

Good luck DW

No to all of your questions, just MHO.

The neck problems do seem to be a problem for some CH'ers....but not a prob for me.

hi, hope you are doing better..

here are my answers:

1. I always get them at the beginning of the year (either jan, feb and mar, or feb, mar and apr or mar apr and may, but never after may is over, the daylight time does not matter.

2. After having several CH's hits, I hurt just about everywhere, I tend to tension all my muscles when I have that terrible pain. Plus I hit my nugget with whatever I find in my way, so I often have bumps in my head after is over

3.I never try it, so I do not know.

4. If you find it, come and tell us ;;D

...but not if it involves cell phones, smearing peanut butter on delicate tissues, schnorking hot peppers up your nose, encrusting your chest with bleu cheese, or wearing a weird wahoo metal ring around your head like something out of Lost in Space.

We already heard about those.
;;D

Best,

George

Nope, NOT peanut butter ... and no hot peppers up the old schnooz ..

BUT ....

What DOES work, is take those hot peppers, slice them in half, then take them place them between "the boys" and "the tool", then wrap the whole thing in foil, then a gallon size freezer bag, filled with ice cubes.  Leave it on until bag fills with bodily fluids.

Repeat weekly.

Yes. Neck and jaw. I've tried massage and acupuncture, nothing I've tried gives any permanent relief. Discomfort always come back with cycle.

For the muscle/neck pain I keep a little thing of Ben Gay around. As soon as i feel the BEAST I apply a little to that side of my neck/traps. It doesn't stop the pain, but it helps ease the muscle afterwards. I then try and get a massage afterwards just to help some more.  :-/

I also tried a muscle relaxer. That did nothing. I've wondered about Xanax.
