Title: Red Bull
Post by JRHD66 on Mar 28th, 2007, 11:26am
The Flavor Sucks... No Doubt about it.   :-X
But a bartender I used to date taught me a neat trick: a little cranberry juice will kill that nasty mediciney taste.  It is a little sweet, but better than the actual original red bull flavor.

LOL, try being a diabetic, my friend. Actually, I'm hooked on the sugar free and I have at least 1 a day.
Do whatever it takes to kick the beasts ass, bad taste or not!

My cycle finshed but I found myself needing a little pick-me-up last Saturday morning. I hadn't eaten much and I'm trying to use a screwdirver 20 minutes later. I'll tell you I was so jazzed that I could barely get the screwdriver to sit down on the screw.

WTF is it with people bashing the taste of Red Bull?

I happen to like it - a lot!

Guilty as charged.

I actually like it too! You guys should really taste Vicks Red Energy tablets with taurine, caffeine and guarana; they taste repulsive on your first try, then you get used to it...

Besides, if you dislike RB, there are plenty of other energy drinks to try (just pick it generic equivalent...). I've tried several myself and so far they all have helped me. My personal favorite is Red Devil, which is red colored energy drink with a very different taste. I've also had Shark, Thunder (which is actually blue!), Full Size, Spum, Teho (taste is worse than RB), Ed (taste is worse than RB's), Teho cola... just few to mention. I've tried Sugarfree RB, too, and I think that its taste is horrible in comparison with the original, so I don't buy that.

I don't think I'd be drinking anything called Spum or Ed.  [smiley=laugh.gif]

I don't know much about red bull besides it being an energy drink.. so I have a question...

How much of a cola is it? I can't drink colas without becoming quite ill. I think it is because of the caramel coloring/flavoring what ever the caramel thing is in it. Either way, my stomach thinks colas are evil and let's me know it.

I can drink dr pepper and ibc root beer just fine, if that helps anyone answer this. Some root beers do get me sick though.

I would think if you can drink the Roll Royce of sodas, IBC rootbeer, you can drink Red Bull.

I LOVE IBC (my second favorite is Dr Pepper), but HATE the taste of Red Bull, but it DOES help, so I drink it.

Maybe colas are more carbonated than other sodas, and that's what's making your stomach upset? Red bull is only lightly carbonated. Some people actually open one and leave it in the fridge so when the time comes that it's needed, they can chug it down quickly and not have to deal with the bubbles.

I'd like to give a summary and update about my CH's; it all started with red bull.
I had my third bout of CH beginning a year and three months ago.  the usual treatments weren't working as they had in the past (prednizone; maxalt) so I got back on this wonderful site and learned about the O2 therapy.  Well, that certainly worked for me in aborting most attacks, but they were relentless.  They were still ongoing into July and I was ready to jump off a bridge. Seven straight months of CH's and I was sure I had gone chronic!  I again came to this site and tried to find another alternative, not just to abort an attack but to stop them altogether!
That's when I first read about the red bull.
I tried one the next day, and it worked. Just like the previous poster I couldn't believe it!
I did a little research and found that the ingredient of interest in the red bull was "taurine" - and can be found for a mere five bucks a bottle, fifty tabs per bottle (yes, it comes in a tablet) I get mine at GNC. A web serach will give you some amazing information on taurine - it does nothing but good things.  I figure if they can put it in a drink, it can't be harmful.
Well, I began taking the taurine at about 4,000 mg a day; or 8 tablets, and did so for weeks. I tapered down (after a couple of months) and now take 1000mg a day and figure I will for the rest of my life!  I have not had a cluster since starting the taurine!
However, what I did have were miserable little "hangovers" that would last all day, some days worse than others. But what wonderful relief to not have another full blown cluster attack.
Now, out of a fluky sort of discovery, i found my hangovers would leave if I stayed away from coffee and chocolate.  The link is clear to me and just to test it out, I had a coffee one day, and next morning, yep; another hangover.  Well, it's been a week now and I am so happy because my head hasn't felt this clear in over a year!
Now, I did try quitting the coffee while my clusters were full blown, and it didn't seem to have any effect; but I truly believed the taurine had stopped my attacks and the only missing piece then became the coffee and chocolate.  I had a real bad hangover when I had taken coffee one day, and eaten a handful of m&m's that evening.  The next morning, my hangover woke me from my sleep. The link for me is clear.
I hope others can try this and find some success.  I have never in my life felt so awake, aware and pain free.
The thing I didn't mention is that when I started taking the taurine, I also drank the red bull for a few days until I felt the tablets were saturating my system.  Then I quit the red bull, which was expensive for me, especailly after paying for the O2, maxalt, imitrex (that gave me terrible rebounds) the amount of taurine in each red bull is 1000mg. so that's why I stay with at least two tablets. Now, I can stay 100% pain free for the first time in ages.  I thought I was going to eventually die from this last bout. This site has saved me. Thanks to all who share here. I will be back with an update another time.
But, I will tell you that if the red bull worked for you, please, please try this regimine as I did.  If you find you have hangovers, quit the coffee (and by the way,it can't be caffeine; I drink tons of cola and nothing bad happens.)
Another interesting note; research coffee allergy and you'll find it's the most heavily sprayed produce there is; and often times, the pesticides used are banned in the USA; fertilizer too.  My thought was that those toxins were building up in my brain and the articles I've read suppport that.
Some coffee is worse than others. If you don't want to quit coffee, buy organic. More expensive, but the toxins won't be present.
God bless you all for helping me; and I will pray for ou all that you will also find your solution, find relief and remind you that it didn't happen overnight for me, and so likely won't for you, either.  God Bless you all. I know how much the suffering hurts.

If you refer also to Teho cola which I mentioned in my post earlier in this thread, then it's not really a cola drink, but a energy drink, which just has the world cola in its name. It sure has cola's color, but the taste is something complitely different.

Oh, if you would be desperate to get rid of Ch and one of them would be your only option, you'd try one of them, too... ;;D

Spum actually is pretty much RB, just that the can is different and the price is 50 % cheaper.

When english is your native tongue, "Spum" sounds a little too much like another word that is, shall we say, a bit distasteful if you are a male heterosexual.

And "Ed" is a guy's name - short for Edward or Edmund, which conjures up some of the same images for me.

I'm sure I could get past it, but I'm also sure my gut would be quivering with that first chug.

Afetr reading about Red Bull on here earlier this morning I was right in the middle of a wicked bad attack and I had taken all the Imatrex I could for the day so I decided to give it a try. It did relieve some of the worst pain and gave me relief for a short time, and truth be told who doesnt want that even if only for a bit. Thanks all!!
