Title: How to find/buy welders oxygen? Post by downstairs on Jan 26th, 2007, 3:28pm So my neuro seems to want to give me a hard time on the oxygen. At least his assistant is- who knows what the issue is (I mean- its oxygen, not a drug!) If I have to go to welders route, can someone give me a good step-by-step on where to buy it and how to do the whole thing? Since it is something that gets used up, I assume I need a place nearby- or can it be obtained on the Internet? (I live in New Orleans, Louisiana by the way). I read the oxygen info on this site, but I'm still a bit confused on the step-by-step of it all. |

Title: Re: How to find/buy welders oxygen? Post by Ob1kanobee on Jan 26th, 2007, 7:42pm To convert a medical regulator all you need is......a CGA-540 connector (Male), a 3"X1/4" NPT stem (National pipe thread) and some teflone tape. That is what I was told by Jonny. I Know you also need a Clustermasx, so order that right away and don't wait as it comes from the U.K. It will come with all the hoses you need. Now this is the part I'm confused about, because I ended up buying bottles full of O2 from someones mother who died. The bad thing is I can't get them refilled without a script. O.K. so I still think YOU NEED THE REGULATOR, I could be wrong. You want a regulator that goes up to 15lpm. I bought mine of Ebay and the brand is called "DRIVE". I think I spent $35.00 with shipping maybe $40.00 You will also need to aquire a welder's tank. Don't get a used one, it should be new. Then get on the phone and start calling the welder's supply places and let them know your going to be doing some welding. I have not done this yet, but I would ask them if their o2 is really pure because your welds require pure O2. Supposedly there is no difference between medical grade and welder's grade. Now where you buy the tank, they may also have the O2, I don't know. Feel free to PM me and if you need to go over it on the phone, it is not a problem. I had to have someone here help me set up my Clustermasx. Remember with Oxygen, it must be used correctly for it to work, with all of the exact items I noted above. You also have to be safe with it. No smoking around it or while operating your system, and even letting your clothes air out and the room as well where you were breathing it. I suggest to get the O2 going ASAP. The stuff is a lifesaver for me and others here. Order the Clustermasx now, your gonna need it as well as the up to 15lpm regulator. if you need me to help you track any of this stuff down, let me know. |

If you do this they may laugh at you. Just tell them you need 02 for your shop. They will want to know what size bottle. For example a K size is about 200 lbs full so you dont want one that big. Bottles are sized by a letter designation. A is smallest to K the largest. H's are popular. Jonny and RJ know much more and hopefully will quit slacking off and post. Go back though the archives there are many threads that talk extensively about this. You should be aware of the fire risks of having pure 02 on the property. Be ready to pay a monthy rent fee for the bottle up keep, the refills are cheap. all the best jb http://www.boc-gases.com/products_and_services/by_product/oxygen/index.asp |
