Title: Now dear, I have a headache!

Someone should invent a proper orgasmatron!  I wonder if such a device would be covered on medical insurance? :-/ ;;D

Now dear, I have a headache! Immediate improvement of cluster headaches after sexual activity

Department of Neurology, Hadassah University Hospital and the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School, Jerusalem, Israel

Abstract: The first 150 words of the full text of this article appear below.

The precise pathogenesis of cluster headaches is unknown, but a hypothalamic generator has been postulated as the cause of the disorder.1 In two patients with typical cluster headaches, sexual activity alleviated the episodes. This association may shed some light on the pathogenesis and treatment of this incapacitating disorder.

Patient 1: A 61-year-old, previously healthy man presented with excruciating, left-sided orbital headaches appearing in bouts that lasted for 10 weeks. The pain occurred nightly at around 22:00 h, and was associated with ipsilateral ptosis, lacrimation and rhinorrhoea. Neurological examination and brain imaging were normal and he was diagnosed with cluster headaches, according to International Headache Society (IHS) criteria.2 The headaches always lasted for 90–150 min, except for instances when the patient had sexual intercourse, which at the point of orgasm resulted in instant dramatic improvement in the pain, with complete relief always being achieved within several minutes …

And, a reply …

Quote:
Dear Editor,

I read the case reports of Gotkine et al with great interest and definitely agree with their suggestion that an increase in sympathetic activity may reverse the pain in cluster headache. We saw already in the late 1960´s that spontaneous attacks of cluster headache are not seldom preceded by a shift of the vegetative tone in a parasympathetic direction. Furthermore, the attacks are fairly often associated with symptoms indicative of increased parasympathetic activity, e.g. bradycardia. Two of our patients noticed that heavy physical exercise had a positive effect on spontaneous headache attacks. We therefore suggested that an increased tone of the sympathetic nervous system might have a favourable influence on the headache. We investigated the effect on the pain of a rise in blood pressure induced by constant prolonged physical exercise on a cycle ergometer or intravenous infusion of noradrenaline in 11 male cluster headache sufferers. Both procedures started 15 min after administration of nitroglycerin and lasted for 60 min. It was found that both maximal intensity and duration of provoked headache attacks were significantly reduced compared with control attacks observed following nitroglycerin administration. In one patient noradrenaline was successfully induced during a spontaneous attack. Our results are in some way similar to the most interesting observations by Gotkine et al. The activity of the sympathetic nervous system relative to attacks of cluster headache definitely deserves further studies.

A proper Orgasmatron (®) that one can sleep in would be nice for the episodics plagued by night time hits.  Get one of those Seen-On-TV doodads so all that is needed is to clap the hands, it turns right on.

I think I see a new study protocol for Clusterbusters in the works ;-)

I'm just glad the male/female ratio is closing. Maybe we can pair up cluster-mates for synchronized busting.

Anyone want to sign up for a double-blind(folded) study? LOL

Is that better or worse, than being the placebo?

Bob and Kev

I wouldn't even touch Lee with yours, much less any part of my own.

Hamsters are not attractive animals unless you are Richard Gere

Easy one Bob.
I can answer this one!

Tell her that recent empirical evidence proves that certain hormones enhance the effect of the mushroom therapy and negate the impact of the deformed hypothalamus.

These hormones are hugely beneficial to CH sufferers, in fact, we would all become "hyperchronic" (new IHS CH definition recently announced) without them.
They are oxytocin, testosterone, prolactin and endorphins.

The ONLY cure is orgasm with cuddling (if there is no cuddling the endorphins don't get released so wanking is not a substitute)

Told you! Easy!

Trouble with this whole hypothosis is that one has a SO.

What about us hopless singles?  Specially when the Boyfriend in a box has lost it's luster?

Oh whoa are us who are perpetually single...lol.

Don't tell Bob's wife Redd but I suspect the solo version is just as good  ;) and if the boyfriend in a box is no good- upgrade him!

I well remember this coming up once before.  Regrettably it turned out to be a false alarm but not before I'd offered my services (free of charge, thank you) to assist our ladies in learning if orgasms are the one true cure.

Purely in the interests of science, you understand.

Given these days of diplomacy, democracy and political correctness (an oxymoron in itself) we'd probably all have our names thrown simply into a hat and I'd end up with Jonny!

Ah, well.  We could always auction pick-of-the-litter on the OUCH site.

She says ok, but I still have to stick to my twice-a-year maintenance doses.  :(

Helen and I on the same study?

Helen and I even in the same room at the same time?

NONE of you would survive it.

Technically a fucking lie "Lee"  ;;D

You survived me and Cathy in the same room, but never me and Helen unless you count being amongst hundreds at the OUCH UK conference in London where the three of us happened to be but you were avoiding my husband and I was avoiding you  ;;D ;;D ;)

No-one could handle Helen and I together in close proximity. And just imagine, it could be feasible to have you, me and Cathy, the three stroppy Brit birds together in one room but you would DEFINITELY be a dead hamster then.

Figgers!!!!  I am the odd one .. an orgasm is a trigger for me ....

BUT, for scientific research purposes, only, I keep trying, just to see if it is still so ...

Boy, my right hand is getting tired of all this research!!  And my left refuses to co-operate ...

Ah, the trials and tribulations of research ...

Have you tried indomethacin before sex.....if that's not a personal question!

It can stops the coital trigger...maybe someone could make an indomethacin / viagra combination pill.

Oh, you really do NOT want to take Viagra if you have ch.   Think about it, what happens when an attack hits - blood vessels swell.  What does viagra do - causes blood vessels to swell.  I'm thinking that wouldn't be conducive to a good time.

From personal experience, I can vouch for this!

BUT ....

After that HORRENDOUS hit is over .. the positive aspects of viagra are still there ...  So, depending on how bad you need the viagra ... Take it, and the hit, and then do what you wanted to do first of all ...   But for some reason, your partner may NOT like that hit as part of the foreplay ...
