Title: Red Bull Post by findjoshua on Jan 8th, 2007, 5:14pm I hate Red Bull. I used to flinch when people ordered it, drank it, bought it. It smells, it tastes gross. Having said that, since I found out it helps' CH's, I have probably bought and drank about 20 cans this week to abort. It worked every time except 2. Trying to get 02 delivered and out of trex it's what I do now. Any other good flavors out there? Thanks, Joshua |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by TxBasslady on Jan 8th, 2007, 5:27pm Good luck with getting the 02, Joshua. It's the best treatment I ever used for CH. Never done the RB...so I'm no help there. I have heard though that the generics work as well as the RB name brand. Jean |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by gonz2112 on Jan 8th, 2007, 7:33pm I went to BJs (a warehouse club) to stock up on Red Bull and I ended up buying a case of Monster Energy drink. They are 16oz. so it is like drinking 2 RBs. The ingredients are comparable, it works just as well for me, and ounce for ounce it is half the price of RB. As far as taste goes I can say it tastes better, but it does tastes different. Mark |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by Jonny on Jan 8th, 2007, 7:38pm Some people have bad side effects drinking energy drinks if they are taking Verapamil. Be careful!!!! |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by georgej on Jan 8th, 2007, 8:04pm Assuming that the Verapamil caution has been heeded.... On the recommendation of Chrisjg23, I tried Monster Khaos. Stuff actually tastes pretty decent. What's important in any of this stuff is the caffeine and the taurine. As long as that's in there, any of them should work equally well. So what you're after is something that will cover up the yuck taste of the taurine and whatever other guanine/grapeseed/gingko/noni/dragonfruit/mangosteen/ectoplasm/hoola boola juice they put in there. Most often this involves large amounts of sugar and weird flavorings, like passion fruit. Whatever it takes. Some energy drinks are just plain awful. That being said, I'd drink a quart of motor oil if it killed a CH. Best, George |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by edbeek on Jan 8th, 2007, 8:21pm Our Red Bull cans here in Australia have a warning "Max 2 cans/day". How significant is this? |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by Chrisjg23 on Jan 8th, 2007, 8:23pm Hi All, George is right, I did suggest it to him and I do agree with his statement about the taurine/caffeine. I do prefer the Monster Khaos over Red Bull....simply a matter of taste for me. The great thing is that it has been a wonderful abortive for me. Here is the thread to the Monster conversation http://www.clusterheadaches.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=chspecific;action=display;num=1166876926 Seriously, I must have killed about 20 CH's over the past 3-4 weeks with half a can of Monster. I keep a glass in the freezer...ice already in there and once I hit 3 or 4, I slug it down...HA gone in 5 mins. I even keep a can in my desk at school (I'm a teacher). I must mention that I am also on Verapamil (360 mg) and the Taurine can magnify the Verapamil to a dangerous level. Everyone is different, so use caution. Cheers, Chris |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by floridian on Jan 8th, 2007, 9:36pm You can buy capsules that deliver a gram of taurine for 5 or 10 cents if you shop around. Dissolve it in coffee, add sugar, ice it and keep in the fridge. Dunno what it tastes like - prolly motor oil. But coffee flavored motor oil with taurine and caffeine. |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by sandie99 on Jan 10th, 2007, 4:29am Joshua, I'm glad to hear that RB helsp you, too. I've found that other brands with the same amount of caffeine and taurine than RB help me as well. Back here in Finland we have also Red Devil, which has a better taste, different color (red), it costs little less than RB, but the generic content is the same and so is the impact on my ch hits. PF days, Sanna |

Title: Re: Red Bull Post by kcopelin on Jan 10th, 2007, 9:29am RockStar Zero Carb for me-tastes good-1000 mg of taurine per serving and green tea extract and caffeine. Tried alot of different ones-as long as the ingredients are there it'll work. I did try the taurine tablets, taken with really strong coffee. Wasn't the same, but I can't explain that. Should have worked. And certainly alot cheaper.... I'm also on 360 mg of verap a day so I'm more careful now than I used to be-I limit myself to three cans a day....but have cut down on sodas. PFDAN y'all kathy |
