hi all
       just a quick question, ive been on o2 for 3weeks but it wasnt helping that much and when i looked on this site i saw i had the wrong mask,  this morning i got my new non-rebreather, but it says they are single use only and ive only got one! at the moment im having 3-4 headf**ks a night and the last one i had this morning changed my opinion of a kip 10 never felt anything like it, my question is can i use the mask more than once ? is this dangerous? please let me know what you think

Sorry to hear you're getting hit so badly. I don't know that much about O2 masks,  but I can't imagine that they aren't safe for more than 1 use. Maybe the "single use" just means to be used by 1 person? I can't remember if my mask said that because I ripped the package apart so fast.... I really hope the mask helps you--make sure you read all the oxygen info to the left. Breathing very deeply and focusing on only my breathing is the ticket for me. Did you see the link ont he left on oxygen info? DOes your "single use" mask look like that one? If so, it's not single use. As Tata said, it's for use by one person.

Ben makes the best mask, right out of the UK.

single use MEANS hospitals or medics should not use it with more than 1 individual.

yeah the mask is the same as the one on the left, thank you so much i was getting worried because i didnt want to go back to the old mask after using the new one once. ill come back on and let you know how it worked (prob in a couple of hrs >:(  im really hoping this will come to an end soon been having 2-6 a night since the 1st of sept, i had 5days pf about 3weeks ago and then back to this s**t not sure how much more i can take, pf wishes to you all, thanx again ike

Get a clustermasx! If you have problems contact OUCH UK and they can help you get one. They are MILES better than the NHS ones.
I used my one-use only NHS mask for ages though before I got my masx.

1.  The clustermasx is SOOOOO worth it.

2.  Do you have any meds you are taking?  Abortives?  Although O2 is the best first line of defense, there are tons of other stuff too.

thanx for the replys everyone   :) ill get straight on with getting a clustermasx, the  non-rebreather seems a lot better than the other one!! im on Amitriptyline  at the moment and my doc wants to try verapimil, but i cant take the two together?! so gonna start slowing down on the Amitriptyline soon and start the verapimil at the moment i take 50mg in the morning and 100mg at night they seemed to work last year, but this time no joy. i cant use inigran injections as when i used them last time i went into anaphylactic shock, within min i could feel my body swelling! not nice at all. at the moment i find that ice helps with o2, my doc seems to treat me like royalty at the moment, ive had meetings with the students who all seem very interested in me but dont really know how to help much. is there any other meds that any of you can think of that might help ??

The Clustermasx moved my succes rate from about 30% to better than 80.  Worth it's weight in gold IMO.

Amitriptyline has a VERY poor record as a CH prevent and isn't recommended by any neuros I know of. It is really a migraine prevent and isn't really much good at that either!

thanx for the replys, ive ordered my clustermasx and should get it just after xmas  :) ill speak to my doc about olanzapine see if i can get some help that way. seeing my neuro in jan so hope he will shed some light on better meds ! thanx again everyone, wishing you all pf days -nights and a very happy xmas

In the meantime you might want to try red bull or cheaper equivalents (Asda and tescos' own for instance work just as well and Asda do one called "Emerge" which is 29p a can!)
If you chug a whole can at the first sign of a hit it can abort it for you, as with all things you wait you suffer so drink the whole can as fast as you can (I know its disgusting but it works!)
Ice to the affected side is a big help too or if Ice doesn't work for you try heat, one or the other works for most of us, even just going outside into the much colder air can be a big help. Don't forget we're here if you need some support okay?

There is no need to struggle through this alone, we all look out for each other here and that includes you!

Sorry to hear you cant abort with injections. Trex is my sharpest sword. But think cold, ice pack, shower, the beast is from hell he hates the cold. I have sit in my truck at night in the winter snorting the ac vent as a last resort. Good luck
