I haven't heard anyone mention it here. Ran into it when I was looking around at medications prescribed for cluster headache. It is used to help prevent migraine or cluster headaches when it is taken on a regular basis. However, it will not treat an acute migraine headache. This drug is also commonly used to treat hot flashes, sweating, dizzy spells, and restlessness associated with menopause. While this drug may be used for other conditions, other uses are rare. (Back to top) They need to know if you have any of these conditions: •an alcohol or drug abuse problem •blood clots or blood vessel disease •chest pain •diarrhea •difficulty passing urine •GERD or esophageal reflux •glaucoma •heart disease, or previous heart attack •hiatal hernia •high blood pressure •high cholesterol •history of heart attacks •infection •kidney disease •liver disease •lung disease, chest infection or breathing difficulties •mental depression or mental problems •myasthenia gravis •poor circulation •porphyria •prostate trouble •stomach obstruction •tobacco smoker •ulcerative colitis •an unusual or allergic reaction to atropine, belladonna, ergotamine, hyoscyamine, phenobarbital, scopolamine, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives •pregnant or trying to get pregnant •breast-feeding (do not breast-feed while taking this medication |

(Back to top) This medication may interact with many other medications. Some of the important medications that might interact are listed. Check with your pharmacist before you take any new medicine. Do not use any of the following migraine drugs within 24 hours of this medicine: almotriptan, eletriptan, frovatriptan, naratriptan, rizatriptan, sumatriptan, or zolmitriptan. Also, do not use this drug along with caffeine-ergotamine combinations (example: Cafergot® or Wigraine®); dihydroergotamine (DHE® or Migranal®); ergotamine (Ergomar®); methysergide (Sansert®); ergonovine; or methylergonovine. I think I'll to get my hands on some next cycle to if it's better than the plain cafergot I've used for 35 years. It helps a little but isn't the magic bullet. |

Title: Re: Anybody here heard of this stuff? Post by StressFree on Dec 12th, 2006, 4:30pm I was given CafergotPB (pentobarbital) that had beladonna and ergotamine also. It worked very well as an abortive. Like most abortives, occasionally it didn't stop a bad attack. Most of the time it did the trick though. CafergotPB seems to be impossible to get anymore. I'd definately try some of the other brands listed. Try high-end dosage of Verapamil at the same time if your doctor approves... Rich |

Title: Re: Anybody here heard of this stuff? Post by UN solved on Dec 12th, 2006, 9:37pm Yes ... I just went through trying to get Bellaspas a couple of months ago. It took me awhile to get it and I had to look for it @ more than 1 pharmacy. In the end ... it didn't help me and the docs were afraid that I would still use the Imitrex jabs if I had a bad attack (they were right about that) . I quit using it before I had to use the Imitrex. It's now off my list. I don't want to use anything that restricts my Imitrex use if I needed it. Goodluck UNsolved |
