Title: Amitryptyline has saved my life
Post by Julie on Dec 1st, 2006, 9:06am
Hi there,

I've had cluster headaches for about 10 years. This past episode was extremely difficult. I tried several medications, including prednisone and depakote, and nothing worked. Eventually I switched doctors. My new doctor has me on 50mg of Amitryptyline and I have not had a headache in 2 weeks. I have the occasional "twinge" but it does not develop into a headache. I have had many days with absolutely no sign of clusters. This has lasted 16 days and this is the longest I have gone without a headache since August. I strongly recommend you talk to your doctor about this drug. I know not everything works for everyone but it's worth a shot.

My heart goes out to you all.

Julie

i just started 10mg a few days ago. at the same time i stopped verapamil. so i can't tell you yet if its done any good yet or not. i still feel the same. i'm supposed to ramp up to 20mg in 2 weeks. we'll see how it goes.

Hi,

I started at 10 also - it didn't work. We went to 20 after one day, then 40 after 3 days. At 40mg and after 4 days I was doing much better but I was having small cluster headaches that would only last about 5 minutes. My doctor then said I could go up to 50.

I really hope it works for you.

It stopped an episode or two for me too, but the side effects were ravaging, so while it stopped my CH's, it left me unable to work; (I'm a pornstar and the impotency took me off the set. I mean I'm a computer person and couldn't remember commands.) I had traded one problem for another.

;;D

but happy for you!

(can I joke like that or will that get me thrown out of here?)

Haven't heard of the amy pill since about 91-92.  Was prescribed some then, but don't remember taking it.  Had the trex then too.
What I do remember is how little-bity the pill was.
