Title: Help with a doctor Post by neurrorist on Nov 25th, 2006, 5:58am I recently joined clusterbusters and am wondering if anyone can help me find a competent and understanding doctor in the tampa brandon florida area. The doctors I have seen dismiss my problems and prescribe me expensive pain killers which I refuse to take. They are unhelpful, and have on multiple occasions given me contradictory information. The only manner I have found to treat myself, is with unconvential and illicit substances. Whereas these have had a world of improvement on my life (I don't think I could have made it otherwise and I thank my plant friends), I am still searching for a sympathetic doctor who will work with me in trying to treat them. If anyone in the area has someone they can recommend, I would greatly and deeply appreciate. Thank you |

Title: Re: Help with a doctor Post by E-Double on Nov 25th, 2006, 7:25am I'm sure we can help you locate a decent doc. Tell us a bit about yourself. How long have you danced with the devil? How long did it take you to get a diagnosis? How old are you? Black or light and sweet? (coffee) Do you enjoy stomping on chickens? Do you crochet? Anything? |

Title: Re: Help with a doctor Post by Bob_Johnson on Nov 25th, 2006, 8:30am 1. Search the OUCH site (button on left) for a list of recommended M.D.s. 2. Yellow Pages phone book: look for "Headache Clinics" in the M.D. section and look under "neurologist" where some docs will list speciality areas of practice. 3. Call your hospital/medical center. They often have an office to assist in finding a physician. You may have to ask for the social worker/patient advocate. 4. http://www.achenet.org/physicians/ On-line screen to find a physician. 5. http://www.headaches.org/consumer/index.html Call 1-800-643-5552; they will send a list of M.D.s for your state.I suggest using this source for several reasons: first, we have read several messages from people who, even seeing neurologists, are unhappy with the quality of care and ATTITUDES they have encountered; second, the clinical director of the Jefferson (Philadelphia) Headache Clinic said, in late 1999, that upwards of 40%+ of U.S. doctors have poor training in treating headache and/or hold attitudes about headache ("hysterical female disorder") which block them from sympathetic and effective work with the patient; third, it's necessary to find a doctor who has experience, skill, and a set of attitudes which give hope of success. This is the best method I know of to find such a physician. |

Title: Re: Help with a doctor Post by UN solved on Nov 25th, 2006, 8:59pm Finding a good doctor is one thing ... but finding one who would have anything to do with 'unconvential and illicit substances' is another. I don't think you'll find one who'll do anything more than listen to your experiences with it and ask questions. They couldn't legally prescribe or supply any illegal substances and they couldn't recommend how to use them either. Why do you need a doctor if 'illicit substances' are helping you? UNsolved |

Title: Re: Help with a doctor Post by UN solved on Nov 27th, 2006, 8:43am No. I tried a single, small dose of shrooms not too long ago. It didn't help at all and I didn't like the 'effects'. I haven't tried any of the various seeds or kudzu (yet). UNsolved |

Title: Re: Help with a doctor Post by stargirl50 on Nov 30th, 2006, 3:34pm Try to find a neurologist who specializes in headaches. Believe it or not I went to a neurologist earlier this year who seemingly knew next to nothing about CH |
