Title: Rozerem Question Post by tanner on Nov 8th, 2006, 5:27pm I went to see my Pain Management Doc today and besides suggesting that I take more Oxycodone (which I am stockpiling, not using), he wants me to start on Rozerem. He says it will help reset my "time clock". After reading about it, it looks to me like I would be better off using melatonin instead of a drug that "mimics" the effects of same. Much cheaper for one. Am I missing something? He also said I should take it 1 1/2 hours before bed instead of following the instructions in the lit. Thought I should ask the experts ;) Best wishes to all.......Tim |

Title: Re: Rozerem Question Post by Linda_Howell on Nov 8th, 2006, 5:39pm I had never heard of this drug before Tim so I looked it up too. It said it works on the circadian timeclock and I do not believe Melatonin does. Maybe changing your clock will help you. If it was me, I'd try it and if it does no good..Go back to Melatonin. |

Title: Re: Rozerem Question Post by tanner on Nov 8th, 2006, 6:11pm Thanks Hun, His PA was kind enough to give me enough samples to give it a try without getting into my wallet (I hate to disturb the flies in there). She said it takes some time to build up in your system so I guess I will give it a go. Thanks for the PM also :-* I think (good thoughts) about you every day, even when I don't post and say so :) .....Tim |

Take `em, then yell back. Melatonin never did squat for me. I've been fooling around with Ambien, another non-narcotic "hypnotic" sleep aid. Don't know about any clock resetting discussions, but it does make me forget everything between 15 minutes after taking the pill and the next morning. According to the future ex, it's stopped me from thrashing violently in the middle of the night, but I do wierd things like put a book on her pillow when she gets up to pee at 3 AM. WTF? I don't remember shit, even tho I'm (apparently) totally lucid at the time. Better living thru Chemicals. (http://www2.dupont.com/DuPont_Home/en_US/index.html) Hap |

Title: Re: Rozerem Question Post by E-Double on Nov 8th, 2006, 8:28pm Drs @ NECH perscribed it for me in december but I never took it. There are supposedly studies going on at houston headache clinic. If melatonin works why try the synthesized version?? |

Title: Re: Rozerem Question Post by _UNsolved on Nov 9th, 2006, 9:44am After hearing that Rozerem was being studied as a possible med to help clusters ... I jumped on it and have been on it for about 2 months now. At first it seemed to help me sleep better and get me through the nights ... but that effect quickly wore off. The attacks continued as the beast has scheduled them. I'm still taking 8mg every night but it's having no effect on me. :-/ UNsolved |

Title: Re: Rozerem Question Post by LeeS on Nov 9th, 2006, 10:04am Thanks for the update UNsolved. The cynic in me says that maybe the pharmaceutical industry is looking to make money out of a melatonin lookalike :-/ (as a hormone, melatonin cannot be patented.) Sorry it's not working for you any longer - I did think it had promise and may well do so for other sufferers (albeit a tad more expensive than the real thing ::)). -Lee |

Title: Re: Rozerem Question Post by tanner on Nov 9th, 2006, 4:30pm Thanks all for your input. I decided since I have it and at this point its free I would go ahead and try it. Last night was my first try and I followed the Docs instructions and took it 1 1/2 hours before my target bedtime of 10:30. I got quite drowsy and relaxed and stayed in bed awake until 2:00 am when a HA forced me to get up. I finally went to sleep at 6:00 am this morning. I was told to expect some changes in HA patterns at first and that it would take awile to have a benificial effect. I will continue the test until I have to start paying for it and see where it goes. My next question is how does this drug affect the "detox" requirments for busting? I will keep you all informed as to my results. Tim |

Title: Re: Rozerem Question Post by LeeS on Nov 10th, 2006, 1:16pm All the best with it Tim - keep us posted. on 11/09/06 at 16:30:17, tanner wrote:
Not sure. I don't think anyone has reported 'busting' whilst taking Rozerem but I could be wrong - tommy? :-/ There have been anecdotal reports that melatonin may intervere with the action and efficacy of psilocybin (but I think the jury's still out on that one); so logically, it would probably be worth detoxing from the Rozerem whilst embarking on the alternative therapy. -Lee Hey two 'whilsts' in one post that's gonna tickle someone ;;D |

Title: Re: Rozerem Question Post by tanner on Nov 15th, 2006, 3:47pm I had to quit taking the stuff before I could tell if it was going to help or not. I would get good sleep one night and crap the next. The only consistency was arrhythmia in the morning lasting till at least noon. I hate that feeling weather it is life threatening or not so that's the end of that little test. ...Tim |

Title: Re: Rozerem Question Post by kcopelin on Nov 16th, 2006, 1:03pm Tim, was reading up on this med and it is not only supposed to reset your clock-it also ensures REM sleep. I for one, do not want REM sleep as that is when the CH hits. I'm sticking with busters. PFDAN y'all kathy |
