Title: Ritalin

sorry if this has been addressed before,

Cluster Headache Management With Methylphenidate (Ritalin)
Gary A. Mellick, DO, Larry B. Mellick, MD
The authors report rapid cluster headache relief in a 43-year-old man with a 5-year history of refractory cluster headache. The patient described complete headache relief within 10 minutes of taking 10 mg of methylphenidate (Ritalin) when used to abort the onset of his headaches. Subsequently, a scheduled Ritalin dose taken each morning was sufficient to prevent his nightly headaches. In addition, 1 week of prophylactic methylphenidate therapy halted the series of cluster headaches. This is the first reported case of relief of cluster headaches with methylphenidate.

I see some similarities of Ritalin to the structure of pseudophedrine, which sometimes helps me with minor hits.  But it isn't working like the indole ring SSRI's and indole ring halucinogens which bind to the seratonin receptors.
This is interesting, but I don't understand the mechanism going on.  Maybe one of our more molecular types will step in with some speculation.  ;;D

I wonder if Ritalin and Zyprexa are at all alike.  5mg of Zyprexa is still 100% effective for me in aborting an attack and letting me sleep the rest of the night.

HOWEVER, the side effects are horrible which prevents me (and probably many others) from taking it daily.

A few have reported that the amphetamine class of drugs works as abortives for them. Not so for me. I should be taking Ritalin, or Concerta for my ADD, but I find it increases shadows for me.  :-/ So, I don't use them often, and my life is glaring evidence of that.
