Title: Is HTP-5 an effective treatment? Post by davidR on Oct 19th, 2006, 9:38pm Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with a daily dose of HTP-5 (I'm going to take Solaray's L-5-hydroxy Tryptophan) as a way to minimize the number and intensity of headaches during a cycle? From what I can tell, cluster headaches might be related to low levels of serotonin, so I thought I'd try raising the level of serotonin in my body. (I usually take Sansert w/O2, but I want to get rid of Sansert, because it's a little toxic). I searched the archives, but I didn't find anything directly related to my question. Thanks! David |

Title: Re: Is HTP-5 an effective treatment? Post by pattik on Oct 19th, 2006, 10:25pm Hi David, I'm sorry to say that 5-HTP didn't work for me the one time I tried it (8 years ago). I took it daily for six weeks leading up to the time of my expected annual fall cycle, hoping it would stop or at least postpone it. It had no effect in either postponing or reducing the intensity of the cycle. But what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another, and these supplements aren't standardized in their content. Good luck with it if you're going to try it. patk edited to add: Take a look at the kudzu threads. Based on others' experiences with it, it has a pretty good track record for lessening the intensity of a cycle, and it's readily available in stores and on the internet. http://www.clusterheadaches.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=meds;action=display;num=1110584362 |
