Title: New preventative drug coming
Post by unsolved1 on Oct 5th, 2006, 8:33pm
According to Dr. Diamond, there is a new drug that is coming out that may be very helpful to us clusterheads. They said that clinical trials begin in January. I don't know the name of this 'new drug' yet, but if it's ready to be tried in January, I'll try it.

They described it like it was another Imitrex ... but it's a pill that you take as a preventative med. They said it may prevent clusters if taken daily.

As soon as I find out more about this 'new drug', I'll pass on the info.

If you are one of the ones that is suffering now ... hang in there. There may just be a light at the end of the tunnel after all.

Goodluck all

Did you ask him where the trials were happening and they need volunteers?  I bet you could find a few for the researchers.

I found out some research was being done within 30 minutes of my home but they never even returned my call.

And, if history repeats itself, it will be more expensive than the most expensive ones out there now.

And for a little frosting on the cake, our insurance companies will limit us to four doses per month - if we're lucky.

Health care isn't really about health at all.

...hmmm  imitrex and naprosyn.  And we can take it daily?  well, I think its a miracle, and I definitely want to by stock in GSK.  :P
But if it works, it works....I would be willing to try it...
the vinegar and bleu cheese did nothing for me ::)

In fact, wouldn't it be cool if every single one of us bought at least one share in GSK.  Wonder if we would have any more clout?

so is it a marketing ploy or is it research?

Its still imitrex though which is the shortest acting triptan.. you'd still be better off with zomig or frova in my book
If you think otherwise try knocking back a naproxen and an imi now and see where it gets you.  :-/  Just another way to get around the patent expiry if you ask me.

You may be right, but I don't think so. I don't think the drug that she was talking about is Trexima. I guess we'll find out.

Zomig & Frova won't touch my 'headaches'. The only thing that works is Imitrex injections. Short acting or not...it works when everything else fails. TGFI

Yes but this is an imitrex pill - NOT an imi injection.

I'll bet they don't touch the sides of a hit within that two hour half life do they?

edited to add that I've just re read what I wrote and I'm in no way picking at you just so you know! It sounded aggressive when I read it back but it wasn't meant to be, I was merely typing as I speak. Unsolved you know I have a lot of time for your opinion, its worthy given that you've tried about everything so have a qualified viewpoint. I didn't intend any disrespect okay?

Yes, I do think that the trexima is a new Imitrex pill with a combo of meds. I doubt it would help me since it's still a pill. I still don't think that this is what she was talking about. As soon as I hear more, I'll be passing it along to you all.

Have a great weekend all !!   ;;D   8)

Trexima is an abortive, not a preventive. Discussed here back in February...and is nothing more than a patent-move...JMHO

For those of you on imitrex tablets, feel free to pop an aleve with it. You'll be ahead of the pharmaceutical companies curve.

I'm so glad they are spending their millions of research dollars...on this  >:(
Heaven forbid they just put on the label, "works even better for some people when taken with an Aleve tablet," and spend their time and our money on something NEW. But, it looks good to the stock holders to come up with another 8/9 years of patent protection......and high costs to the consumer.
