Title: Mushroom question
Post by fiftyamp on Oct 2nd, 2006, 8:19pm
Hello Everyone..

I'm an eposodic sufferer, and I'm just beging my cycle.  After reading some of the horror stories of Chronic CH's, I fell lucky only to have to deal with these every 14 months.  But, as we all know, they hurt like a MFer..

My question is in regards to mushroom treatment.  Now I have used Shrooms in the past for fun.  I've even aborted a cycle(accidently) a few years back after a few weeks in Jamacia.    Why do people recomend taking less than a recreational amount?  Is it, so as not to 'feel the full effects of the shrooms?  Or does a heavier amount have some sort of adverse effect on the treatment?

Thanks and Much Love..Eric

I'm sure that the experts will come shortly, but from what I understand a sub recreational dose appears to work better for most people than a larger one.  Also, most of us object/dislike the effects of dosing.

Just my opinion, of course: a recreational dose  (a trip level two or three on erowid’s scale) seems to work well for clusters, but a lower dose seems to work just as well.

And as giovanni said, some folks don’t enjoy the experience. In addition, the psychedelic experience can present problems for those tending toward certain psychological maladies.

From anecdotal reports, it seems that high doses  of psilocybin, - entheogenic doses, where trip levels 4 and 5 are reached - are less reliable as cluster treatment. ...and can be pretty intense even for the strong of mind.

And since we are dealing with natural, variable substances, it’s easy to take a little too much and hit a trip level four or five when a two was expected.

So the goal is normalcy. Having almost no headaches is closer to normal than geting pounded multiple times a day, and giggling a little once a week is closer to normal that tripping out, so a half-recreational dose of the shrooms is a blow for normalcy.

Call me a conservative (but not a Republican!)

there is also the idea that as a community of sufferers of a medical condition, that also just happens to be treatable with this natural product, which is illegal, that it should be viewed with as clinical an approach as possible. Discussing recreational doses and, as previous poster posted a few weeks ago, being okay with feeling a little "loopy" doesn't serve the community as a whole.

And that pretty much cuts to the heart of it!!!.......Tim

The questions asked seem appropriate to me.

Thanks for the response.  I tried the mushrooms last night.  I used about 1/16th of an ounce, steeped in hot water.   The effects from the mushrooms were very mild.  No hallucinations, no laughing like a mad man, nothing to crazy.  After the effects wore off, I got one of the most severe CHs I've had in a while. Maybe a KIP8, that lasted about 3 hrs.   I've had shadows all day, but no CHs.  Has anyone had similar experiances?

It's a pretty common occurrence fiftyamp and is commonly called the post-dose hit; and perhaps bizarrely, it is often seen as a good indicator.  No one really knows why it happens, but a fellow sufferer recently hypothesised the following:

"I think it is just one more confirmation that the psilocin is having some effect on the CH-producing mechanism of the body. Perhaps the neuroreceptors are in a state of flux or disequilibrium for a short while after dosing with psilocin, and one of the states they pass through during that flux is the state which triggers a CH."

All the best with it.  The next couple of days should help determine how best to proceed.  Keep in touch.

Good answers here.

Fifty For the shadows try Red Bull. That helps me. I find after dosing I get a smaller headache the next day then fine. Red bulls  normally take care of those. But a kip 8 Oh shit . I hope that one does not happen to me. You got oxygen?
