Title: Acupuncture
Post by MattyMVP on Sep 27th, 2006, 10:19am
Seriously considering this alternative, although there's an excellent chance that it will not be covered by insurance.  As we all know, we'll do anything that works.  My sister-in-law is going to school for this very field and mentioned it as an option.  She said that the tips of the fingers would be a likely target area.

So, any experiences out there?  Thoughts?

I had about 12 to 14 accupunture treatments, sorry to say it did nothing for Head pain, it  was a pleasant experience and I would have  continued to get them, however with  no coverage  it got too expensive over time. Try it, everybody is different and it may well work for you.

I have a degree in acupuncture and I do a lot of acupuncture in my surgery. Works great for muscular pain such as back pain, neck pain , can even help with some tension headaches but WILL NOT WORK for cluster or migraine.

Acupuncture works on the peripheral nervous systems and muscles, cluster and migraine are disorders of central nervous system.

My advice is : dont waste your time or money, it wont work.

If you have some muscles tension or spasm it may help but thats about all.

I knew it was a waste of time from experience but now I know why . Thank you Anette.
And don't bother with chiro either sigh..........
Alternatives that have been shown to work by reports on these boards etc.
oxygen #1
Red Bull
Kudzu
Magnesium
Taurine
B vitamins
Ice therapy
LSD as from mushrooms, or seeds (lysergic acid) being studied now at Harvard. Thanks docs.
Any others I forgot?????

The above methods are used with meds and sometimes more than one at a time.

PS I use all of the above and have improved greatly. Not a cure but good control. My cycle this time is definitely less severe and different. Keeping everything crossed.

PPS You are talking to someone who has gone through this ffor 22 years along with complicated migraines added in for fun.

SAVE YOUR MONEY

Thanks to Annette, and everyone else.

I'll consider it time and money saved.

I do love this forum, although I wish it didn't exist.  Paradox, isn't it?

Annette,

Thanks for your post re:Acupuncture.   I've heard before that it does not work for CHs, but I have friends who keep telling me to try it.  (They also think that I'm just having "headaches".)  BUT . . . You know what it's like to deal with the beast -- sometimes us sufferers are so desperate, we'll break down and will try anything.

It was especially interesting to hear why accupunture isn't effective for these types of headaches.

Thanks once again for caring, and providing all of us with such pertinent information.

Deb
