Title: In which side do you spray imitrex? Post by kindness2others on Sep 16th, 2006, 11:54pm Just wondering which side seems to work better for those of you using Imitrex Nasal spray to abort CH's. I've been spraying up the nostril on the affected side of my head and am wondering if it makes any difference to spray on the non-affected side. What results have any of you experienced? Kindness |

Post by Theresa on Sep 17th, 2006, 12:22am Hi Kindness, Usually the nostril on my affected side (I'm a right sider)is plugged so I end up spraying it in the left nostril. I have however tried both sides and I haven't noticed any difference. It is important though not to lean back because then you just end up swallowing the spray and it's not as effective (and it tastes horrible!) T |

Title: Re: In which side do you spray imitrex? Post by mcf69 on Sep 17th, 2006, 12:31am Doesn't matter which side, the point is to get the trex to the small blood vessels in the nose so it can be quickly absorbed. I suppose if the affected side is plugged and running real bad I'd go with the opposite. I've only used the nasal spray about 4-5 times and the taste was so horrible I decided I could put up with the pain rather than snorting the nasty stuff. Since I've gone to the stat dose I use it more readily, which could be good or bad depending on how you look at it. |

Title: Re: In which side do you spray imitrex? Post by BigCoffinHunter on Sep 17th, 2006, 12:39am I use it up the opposite nostril as my headaches. Once that nostril starts running, I figure it's just pushing the medicine out. I found it's a lot less effective on the affected side. Note: I use Zomig not Imitrex, but I assume this applies. |

Title: Re: In which side do you spray imitrex? Post by Carl_D on Sep 24th, 2006, 9:14am I use it in my affected nostril, simply because it stays up there longer. If I use it in my other nostril, it seems to jut go down my throat immediately. I don't think it matters which side you use. Peace, Carl |

Title: Re: In which side do you spray imitrex? Post by BigCoffinHunter on Sep 24th, 2006, 9:29am I'm pretty good about not getting it down my throat. I inhale very moderately when I shoot the spray, just enough to get it up my nose. |

Title: Re: In which side do you spray imitrex? Post by Bond007 on Sep 24th, 2006, 11:54am I spray it up the opposite nostril of my affected side since I get such horrible congestion. I'd rather be sure that the medicine gets to the blood vessels and not trapped in the "snot" that's clogged up in my affected-side nostril. Granted, I've only used my trex twice and I've never tried it on the affected side, but it seems to work very well on the non-affected side as long as I make sure to breathe through my mouth for a while afterwards so the meds stay in my nose and not make their way down my throat. |
