Title: The Water Treatment Post by BigCoffinHunter on Sep 9th, 2006, 8:37pm I haven't seen any recent discussion on this, but I didn't look too hard. At the risk of duplicating old threads, I ask what are people's experiences with it? I was just realizing that I was basically doing it without knowing. The Verapamil was starting some of its side effects, so I've been drinking a ton of water the last couple days. I have no idea if it's gonna help or not. Have you folks had any success with it? |

Title: Re: The Water Treatment Post by Guiseppi on Sep 10th, 2006, 12:09am I tried it years ago but didn't get any relief from it, I have seen others post who did get some relief using it. It's like everything else on the board, works for some not for others. Hope the verap helps! Guiseppi |

Title: Re: The Water Treatment Post by SophiaK on Sep 10th, 2006, 11:17am I'm on both Verapmil and Warfarin, neither is helping my head pain. You will have to take fiber to help with Verapmil's side effects. Try something like Metamucil, store brand works just fine and cheaper, you'll have to take it every day. I hope V works for you like it does for so many. |

Title: Re: The Water Treatment Post by TxBasslady on Sep 10th, 2006, 2:35pm Yes, it works for me. If I drink more water than anything else, I don't even get shadows. We're all so different...very few things work the same for everyone. Jean |

Title: Re: The Water Treatment Post by BigCoffinHunter on Sep 10th, 2006, 3:10pm I wonder if drinking excess water has some sort of effect on ion transport in the brain or something. That's what some of the preventives do I believe. |

Title: Re: The Water Treatment Post by TxBasslady on Sep 13th, 2006, 10:46pm Certainly drinking more water allows for better oxygenation of the blood. I would have to think that H2o consumption would also allow for cooling of the body. Remember that the brain is 3/4 water. I do think that other liquids we drink like coffee, tea, etc., do help to an extent, but there's really no substitution for the water. I used to be the world's worst about drinking water. But when I saw for myself that it helped my CH, I have found it easier to consume. Good luck to you, Jean |

Title: Re: The Water Treatment Post by tommyD on Sep 18th, 2006, 4:11pm I think staying well hydrated helps. At least it helps keep away the shadows and minor hits for me when using the tryptamne treatment. I also use water in another way - as an abortive. At the first sign of a serious hit, I chug down a full quart of cold water, as quickly as I comfortably can. This doesn’t always work, but more than half the time the attack will be over in less than ten minutes. One must not stray too far from the bathroom for a while, however. My ignorant guess is that this reboots the hypothalamus - which is in charge of such things as body temp, digestion, blood flow, etc - by putting a big load of cold water in the belly all of a sudden, distracting the hypo from its little hobby of periodically making the blood vessels in the head swell up. It’s sorta like fixing the TV by giving it a good smack on the side. There are all sorts of ways to smack the hypothalamus, chugging cold water, sprinting around the block, sticking your head in the shower, masturbating, eating a meal... some work for some some of the time. Only risk is that, like smacking the TV, it might also make it worse. -tommyD |

Title: Re: The Water Treatment Post by georgej on Sep 18th, 2006, 6:37pm I normally drink quite a bit of water, but I've made a couple of deliberate attempts to super-hydrate myself during a cycle to see if it would work. Didn't seem to do anything about the headaches either way. Best wishes, George |
