Title: Has this Crazy Abortive ever worked for anyone?
Post by JohnMcCloy on Sep 1st, 2006, 4:05pm
Long story short.I was getting clobbered by Kip 8 & 9's last night from 10:30 pm until 8 this morning.5 Seperate attacks.Worst I ever experienced.I did not sleep more than 20 mins. Finally as i was getting the last one and it was becoming unbearable I snapped and ran into my bedroom and began shadowboxing for about 3 mins until i nearly passed out from lack of Oxy.

I was so angry I could not take it.I have heard strenous actions work at time and figured Ill give it a shot.Well it worked it was gone in a min with a few mild pains here and there but for the most part it was gone.I basically pretended i was fighting the Cluster Headache itself as if it were a person and as embarassed as i felt after it was worth it.Ill tell you this much If it were a person i would have kicked his ass so bad he would not be bothering anyone else let alone me ever again..lol

I would prefer not to do this with my girlfriend around but has this worked for anyone else in the past?
Or maybe a treadmill run?

there are several folks who have posted that vigorous exercise has an abortive effect for them. one of those things that works for some and not others. but you aren't imagining things -- if it worked, it seems to be something that works again for "exercisers". admittedly, it does come with consequences of looking a bit odd for those middle of the night hits, depending upon your living situation.

i wish i was one that it worked for. I'd love to just put a pair of running shoes by the door and go for a run in the middle of the night.

congrats and keep it up. and maybe you can drop a few pounds while in cycle.

not me brother. one of my secondary triggers is feeling really hungry. so I eat, and snack, and eat, and snack, and then reward myself with desserts, since I can't drink. food becomes my friend sticks to me.

LOL
For some reason the other day right after my headache dissipated i had an urge for a gigantic Cadbury Bar.
I usually drink as well but i have decided for the first time its not worth it and to deal without it during the cycle.

We have all tried crazy things at one time or another. I say whatever works. My nieghbors have seen me running around my yard soaking wet after a shower in the dead of winter, but whatever works ;)

I think I'm crazy, cuz I think making myself sneeze is another useful abortive in my arsenal..

Basically in the last week, I aborted one full blown attack by sneezing. I was in the middle of a rising 7 and sneezed, and it went away totally... It felt like an imetrex spray, but faster... Like totally from pain 7 to nothing...

Since then, I try to make myself sneeze when I feel a shadow come on..

It works some times... I can't seem to get myself to sneeze during a 9/10, though... It's like during that pain level, I can't even feel the nose tickle....

Until I see the neuru, first sign of a shadow I pop a relpax (2 a day at the most)...

Then if it continues I sneeze... Sometimes it does little, sometimes to aborts the hit, sometimes it delays for a half hour  a hit..

If that doesn't work, then I hit the oxygen (which is 50/50 with me so far, don't have the mask, depsite my own plastice bag method). Had a horrible 10 today, and it didn't do anything, even when I went to 12/15.... felt almost as if the oxygen fed the beast, and raged him on a rampage...  :'(

Then if the oxygen doesn't work, (by this time I'm full blown crazy, running around half nakid). I'll run to my sancturary, the shower and try that (in a hit cold water makes it worse, in a shadow its the opposite)...

I'll try and make myself sneeze, and blow my nose as much as possible. It will run anyways, but sometimes the making my self sneeze (tickle my nose hairs, gross, with half a broken q tip)... ends a hit or at least lowers the pain, I recommend it to all...

but then again, i may just be crazy... (highly possible seeing that I'm a month in a cycle, still have 6 days till neuru)....

Not shadow boxing but doing squats worked for me.  Some years back I aborted 60+ doing squats at the onset of the attack.

Now I'm old and lazy so I just suck the O2.

Good for you.

I don't drink much but I hear the call.

Fast walking helps me, and running up and down stairs.  Exercise does not make me feel worse, thank God.  I don't walk quite as fast as a slow jogger jogs.

Hi mate - i think the sneezing thing may have been a coincidence coz i have had heavy hits just dissapear on me.
happens now and again !!

as for the shadow boxing, yeah i fully agree with the strenuous exercise being an abortive.
i do muay thai kickboxing and i had a hit come on just as i was about to train. i threw myself into it and really went hell for leather - after a minute i stopped to catch my breath and was pain free !!

cool !!

try it again next time - i think it only works if you REALLY go for it !!
