Title: change in pain tolerance
Post by Charlotte on Aug 21st, 2006, 9:18am
I am getting some relief with neurontin, indocin, kudzu, red bull, & maxalt.  I still get hit but it is masked to a bearable level.  The wierd problem I'm having is that my pain tolerance is going down and I am more aware of the pain.  I kind of feel like a car with a manual transmission whose clutch went out but you can still drive it by listening to the engine to change gears.

How can you tell the difference between pain tolerance going down and pain going up?

usually my pain tolerance is high, and I actually can ignore quite a bit.  When it is lower, I notice the pain more, even when it is less pain, and get some emotional suffering thrown into the mix.

The pain going up is usually purely a physical thing for me, not too much emotional suffering.

I think what you're feeling is perfectly normal.

I have a high tolerance for pain...but sometimes...when the CH starts playin' games, it seems as though it goes on forever.

After days of getting hit, no matter what the level of pain, I get (for lack of a better word) depressed.   I've had enough...and I want it to stop.   I go through this maybe once or twice a year.

I'm episodic, but I have no cycle.  My CH is random...and I'm subject to getting slammed just about anytime.   The good thing is that 98% of my CH is at night.

Things will get better for you...I think sometimes the emotional effects of any kind of pain gets us down.

Good luck,

Jean

The older I get the less pain tolerance I have. I am 58 years old and my headaches started at 25.
I recall some of those first headaches with out the medications we have today,
I was one tuff son of a bitch then, now I am not sure how I would deal with that kind of pain.
 Yes pain tolerance changes. :-/
