After being a sufferer for 29 years, chronic for the past 10,I couldn't be happier.I'm almost tempted to use the cure word :-X. Well most of you have read my past threads and know my history,as well the details of the procedure. So I will not go into that right now.If anyone is not familliar with my story just ask and I will be happy to fill you in. :) I wish you all PFDAnd good luck dealing with your deamons. John |

Title: Re: Trigeminal Stimulator update Post by zuesthedog on Aug 25th, 2006, 2:18pm Hello gabi. The short version is ,its a small electric stim. placed on the trigeminal nerve. The stim. is placed under the skin above the eyebrow. You can not even tell its there. Its attached to a battery in my chest by way of a wire ,which is also just under the skin. It comes with a remote control which I can use to turn it on and off, and control both amperage and voltage. This device is made by Medtronic. I had the procedure don at University of Cincinnati hospital, By a Dr. Manybur from the Mayfield spinal Institute. The procedure was done as two outpatient visit and I was back to work in about a week. The best part is that the procedure is revervseable. I hope this the Info you needed if you have anymore ques. just ask. PFD to you John |

Title: Re: Trigeminal Stimulator update Post by thebbz on Aug 25th, 2006, 9:52pm Hey Zeus, Glad your still doing better. Thanks for the update. Gabi, This is a not something to take lightly as I am sure Zeus has told you. Do a site search on DBS. This is not for everyone. Zeus was in an awful bad way I'm sure to have this done, as I think he would agree. all the best jb |

Title: Re: Trigeminal Stimulator update Post by zuesthedog on Aug 26th, 2006, 10:11am Hold on a min there thez. This is not a DBS [deep brain stimulator.] It is a super orbital stim. The big difference is this is not brain surgery, nor does it have to be permanent.[other wise if it doesn't work for you or you just dont like it. You can have it removed.] Again it was done in two outpatient visits with local anthisisi ??? . However you are right no surgery should be done without a certain amount of thought. In my case I had exhausted every other poss. therapy and med avail. , but looking back at all the weird sideaffects from the meds , the pain from the beast, as well as some of the painfull therapys. Iwish I would of found this first. It truly has given me my life back :) PFD to you and trhanks for any input. |

Title: Re: Trigeminal Stimulator update Post by thebbz on Aug 26th, 2006, 3:25pm Right on dog but the DBS search has alot of information regarding your situation. ;) I am no doc so I cannot speak to that anyway. I do know there is alot of information to collect. I am sure that was a tough decision for you. Keep on truckin and all the best thebbz |
