Title: Does anyone see a chiropractor?
Post by moonhoney2 on Jun 28th, 2006, 9:25am
We have been going to one for about 5years.  He knows our backs pretty well.  Sean went there yesterday and the dr said that his top vertebre in his neck is really weird.  It's popped out and twisted.  He's never seen anything like it before.  He was truly perplexed.  He's not sure why or how.  He's only known 1 other person with CH, but that person wasn't a patient.

ANyway, I was just wondering if that was somehow connected o the CH and if anyone else experienced the same thing.

Or I could just be grasping at straws, buti t doesn't hurt to ask.

My C2 vertibra is permanantly rotated after a car accident in 1986, and I have had CH since at least 1984, (though it was mis-diagnosed at the time).

I had been to Chiropractors for years and years (among other treatments) for the headaches, back, and neck pain but it never stopped the HA's, but did help the back and neck pain and got the nerve to my right arm unpinched so I could use it again.

I see my chiropractor for my anxiety disorder and also during my cycle to correct the misalignment of C1 & C2 due to my ch's.  It doesn't help with cluster pain, but keeps things from being really screwed up after my cycle ends.  The muscle that surrounds the nerve stem at the base of my head contracts so badly during a cycle that it ends up moving the top discs out of place.

It may help  with some cluster side effects, but the pain during an attack has never diminished due to chiro. adjustments.

Take care,
:)mel

I saw two when I first started having these nonstop so badly that it interfered in my job. Both promised they could "cure" my CH, both said the subluxations in my neck caused them. Both did nothing but give me a sore neck and lighten my wallet considerably.

Subluxations do not cause CH, and while chiropractors are great at fixing muscle and joint pain, even sprained ankles, cracking your neck will NOT change CH at all. Cracking your neck does not change problems in your hypothalamus.

There is GREAT information at quackwatch.com written by a chiropractor who will explain from a scientific standpoint what chiropractors are good at, how even if your spine is perfect quacks will find "subluxations," and how to avoid getting scammed.

Saw one during one particularly desperate cycle. The only thing he truly found was how to set up the next appointment so that we could continue to treat whatever it was he found during the present visit. I wasted time and money during my foray into the chiropractic. The real thing of value I got from the experience was a virulent disregard for the profession.  :)

This is kinda what I was thinking.  That the CH is what was causing the issues with his neck, not the other way around.  but i wanted to ask....no stone left unturned.

We love our chiro.  He's a really great guy.  Sean doesn't have ins and he's only been charging him $45/week for 4 visits (he charges my ins $55 per visit).  He really cares about his patients and does everything in his power to work with them both with the treatments and the finances.

Hello.. new here.  I've been cursed with cluster headaches for more than 10 years now.  Started as episodic, now turned into chronic.  Been on several treatments, best working for me is Topamax + Flexeril now.  Many years of the stuff.  But still not a cure.

Anyway.. Regarding the neck/back issue.. I've never been to a chiopracator, BUT have noticed considerable issues with popping my joints in those regions.  Especially my neck.  This occurs more often when I'm out of a cycle.  I'll feel like a CH is coming on, then pop my neck - and it pops hard and loud, then the sensation goes away.   HOWEVER - when I'm in a cycle, the popping ceases?  Explain that.  It pisses me off.  I HATE being cursed.  Who did this and why?

Oh well, guess we can all relate.

My family and friends recommend me going to chiropractor as a means to cure my CHs, but I've told them it's nonsense.. there's no cure.

My doc raised my Topamax up to 100mg about a year ago. Was CH free for about that long - now they have come back..  So I raised my dosage up to 200mg.  I don't care anymore.  F it.  I'm at the point to where I'll do whatever it takes to rid myself of this misery.

Hope you all have luck out there >:- (

Tatty - interesting about your neck popping. I asked a similar question years ago, but replies were negative as to a cause.

Regarding the chiro-I'd gone to chiropracter without getting permanent "cure" of clusters either. He did use electrical stimulation on my back and neck which did seem to help some for a short period of time afterword. I now use a TENS to relax my neck and face muscles during cluster cycle. I think it helps a lot.

I have tried a chiropractor for years and it has done nothing for my ch or migraines.  I wouldn't waste my time or money on it for ch.  Our backs and necks get knotted up due to all the pain  we are subjected to by getting hit so often and so high in kip10's.  We are in so much pain that we tighten up.  Thus causing neck damage.  So the ch causes bad back/neck not the other way around.  It took 2 neuros and a pysical therapist to come to the same conclusion that I tried to tell them.

My experience exactly...... They only help if the pain in your head is caused by too much cash in your wallet. For CH, the BEST they can do is nothing......

I was desperate for some relief from the pain and made an appointment with a chiro.  I felt some relief immediately, but I think it was more "mind over matter".  You know, I SO wanted it work that for about 15 minutes it did, then I got slammed twice as hard.  Yet, I kept going back to that darn chiro week after week, until I finally realized that the only relief I was getting was a lighter wallet. :'(

which many chiro's will explain is actually good for you. that carrying a wallet that is thick in your back pocket forces many men to rotate their spine un-naturally, often resulting in certain sections of the spinal chord being pinched inappropriately,

Yeah, I go to one whenever my back is acting up, about every two years.  I see a neuro for my CH.
