Title: UGH, I just HAD to have a BEER!! Post by julieknfla on Jun 10th, 2006, 2:28pm This is my 6th day of prednisone. I was thirsty. No visit from the Beast for the last 3 nights for the first time in weeks. 8) Did I mention I was thirsty? started feelin' great. Boy, I sure have missed my beer :'( since being on this cluster cycle. Aw, one beer won't hurt, right? OUCH. Normally, I would have known better, but the prednisone had me feeling confident. Well, at least I had the oxygen to knock out the beast! I don't think I'll try that again. I was wondering, is there any particular type of alcohol other than beer one can drink during a cycle without risking an immediate attack? thanks, Julie |

Title: Re: UGH, I just HAD to have a BEER!! Post by Richr8 on Jun 10th, 2006, 3:05pm None on my list. I drink little, but when I do it's Vodka or beer both of which will bring on a raging Kip 9 in cycle. |

Title: Re: UGH, I just HAD to have a BEER!! Post by Barry_T_Coles on Jun 10th, 2006, 9:29pm Hi Julie First up welcome to the site, you’re in the right place for support here. I have found that Stout, Chardonnay and Scotch won’t cause a hit for me but beer’s a definite killer; last Thursday I had three light beer’s at a function for one of our employees who was leaving and within twenty minutes I had a KIP 3 that just wouldn’t go away, after waiting 15 minutes I just hit the o2 for 5 minutes and it killed it. “ First beers I have had in 6 months “ I’m chronic and have been for the last 18 months after being episodic; you may be interested in a trial I am doing with Taurine (link attached http://www.clusterheadaches.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=meds;action=display;num=1146013283 ) as you will see from the log I am keeping I drink a reasonable amount. Red Bull is my mobile first aid kit; I keep four in the fridge in my work 4x4, another 2 in the fridge in the office and 4 more in the fridge at home. I’m now using the o2 as my last line of defense and it works well for me. Hoping you can have a drink & be pain free soon. Kind Regards Barry |

Title: Re: UGH, I just HAD to have a BEER!! Post by Bob_Johnson on Jun 11th, 2006, 11:07am As we would say in North Carolina: "That will learn ya!" Interesting study out of Europe some years ago indicating that white wine didn't trigger a cluster whereas red wine and distilled spirits would. Worth a try. |

Title: Re: UGH, I just HAD to have a BEER!! Post by rhino on Jun 11th, 2006, 4:07pm I think the Prednisone creates a craving for alcohol. I'm clueless as to why. All I know is I screwed up one time and the Beast punished me over that and it will not happen again. |

Title: Re: UGH, I just HAD to have a BEER!! Post by julieknfla on Jun 11th, 2006, 4:38pm Thanks for all of your replies! Although it'll be awhile before I DO try any alcohol, I will keep what you all said in mind. I'm just used to being able to kick back and relax on my days off,(especially on the weekends) and a have a beer or three. Barry, i sure will go over and check out the link about the taurine. I tried my first Red Bull today to chase away shadows at work. Tastes better than coffee, but not as GOOD as Busch Lite!! [smiley=laugh.gif] |
