Title: Zomig Nasal Side Effects
Post by Smartin on Jun 8th, 2006, 1:21pm
Hello All,

My latest cycle started on may 20th after about 18 months PF.  Had dropped all prevents...verap and kudzu except melatonin.  Have been taking the 5 mgs of melatonin.  I think a plane trip to DC triggered the cycle.

Cycle started off as usual...one HA per day then growing in intensity and frequency.  Only in the evenings.  Now Im up to 3 a night and they're real doozies and the O2 is not aborting on the real tough ones.  Took a dose of Zomig Nasal on Saturday and it worked as usual but I woke up in the middle of the night with tightness in my chest and tinglling and weakness in my arms.  This passes after about an hour.

Last night took another dose of Zomig to abort and slept through the night, but since waking up, I've been having this tightness, tingling and dizziness.  And it comes in waves with each wave lasting about five minutes.   Have an apt. to see the doc tomorrow to get back on the Verap.

I was wondering if anyone else had this same problem and what their alternatives were or if they just up and died from a heart attack...which this seems like it could be.  These are typical side effects, but they seem rather harsh to me.  I've used Zomig sparingly in the past and never experienced this feeling before.  O2 is my abort of choice, but on these big ones I need more help.

I used Zomig NS for a while, using up to three per day, and never had anything like that happen.  Definitely let your doctor know.

I have exactly the same symptoms in response to all triptans, including Zomig nasal. Mine last for 24-48 hours, with additional sunburnt feelings and rebound headaches... my neuro said it was a normal side effect, but obviously it can be scary.

I once read here in some thread that it can mean the dosage is too high. 2mg of trex doesn't seem to cause bad side effects the way 6 does, although there are still nasty rebounds. Obviously it is hard to reduce the dose of a metered nasal spray.

She  (the neuro) said many people have chest pain specifically in response to Trex and go to the hospital thinking they are having a heart attack, but extensive studies show they are not heart attacks, it just tightens the muscles in the chest to the point of being painful for some reason... apparently the goal with all triptans released since trex was released was to be just as effective but with less side effects. She didn't reference where to look that all up though, so my guess is she heard it from a salesperson, as she is normally more forthcoming.

Hope that helps.

Katy

Talk to your doc as soon as possible, if this is something NEW on this med he/she should know.

Get it checked out or I will kick your ass, got it? ;;D

I have an doc apt tomorrow at 10.  This thing really kicked my butt today, but the chest pains stopped around 10 this morning.  I've already taken two naps and now Im way behind at work...oh yeah, hanging out here doesn't help either.
