Title: INDOCIN???????????????????? Post by toddlouky on May 15th, 2006, 9:51pm Todd here. First off thanks all for replies and input on previous post. I just sought med treatment for the first time for my CH. In in my 3rd year, 5th cycle. My CH is not as bad as many, but this cycle so far is the worst, so I thought it was time to do something about it. Armed with lots of info I have read here, I started with my Gen Practicioner, for whom I have a lot of respect. PROBLEM< he looks at me after I tell him whats up, and says "oh you probably dont need a nuero or specialist. I get two or 3 CH sufferers a month, and almost all of them get a very good result from Indocin." So I have this bottle of plain ole Indocin, the antiinflammatory. Havent started them yet, but am tomorrow. Im waiting because my body is flooded with aspirin right now and my stomach is all messsed up. THOUGHTS??? Does this stuff work? I see very little about it on the posts. My initial thought is that my doctor just does not understand the magnitude of what Im dealing with. |

Title: Re: INDOCIN???????????????????? Post by E-Double on May 15th, 2006, 10:17pm I have multiple headache types. I was on it to control idiopathic stabbing headache. It helped but did nothing for CH. It will help keep several headache types at bay yet will not touch CH unless @ super high dose or suppository to my knowledge. If it does help very quickly, there is a chance that it is not CH that you have. Good luck! |

Title: Re: INDOCIN???????????????????? Post by Tom K on May 15th, 2006, 10:34pm Did Indocin before I got the good stuff, 'Trex. It did nothing but make me puke, which was good in hind sight, because after puking, I would fall asleep and would wake up with no HA. On the plus side, you knees won't hurt. If you are dealing with an insurance issue, have him write a referral. Find a doc on the OUCH site that is in your area and go to them. If there is a doc in your area, and this guy still won't give you a referral, if you do indeed need one, call one you find on the site and see how much they cost. My doc isn't covered but it is worth every penny to get the relief that I receive. HTH |

Depends on your insurace. Check with your provider and see if they are in network. If not, you will have to pay out of pocket. From what I have found, the one's that actually have their info on OUCH are the best of the best in dealing with CH. My doc is $95 per visit, usually. I needed a trigger point injection last Friday and she only charged me for the injection, not a visit. Plus she always sends me home with a goodie bag of 'trex and other meds. I just stared Trileptal and she gave me enough to get me through 2 months without having to fill a script. The 6 stat dose refills she gives me when I go to see her, more than makes up for the $95 visit charge. YMMV, but hope you find someone. |

Title: Re: INDOCIN???????????????????? Post by I Cant Dance on May 16th, 2006, 12:41am Make sure you take it with food. It did not work for me, yet nothing does, so it might work for you. |

Title: Re: INDOCIN???????????????????? Post by Gator on May 16th, 2006, 3:26am I took it up to 300mg and it did nothing for the ch. Indocin is rough on the stomach. My doctor told me to take an antacid like OTC Zantac to keep it from ripping my stomach to shreads. |

Title: Re: INDOCIN???????????????????? Post by toddlouky on May 18th, 2006, 12:41am Zero luck so far with indocin. Im stopping it. It had no side effects for me, but on 2nd day on it had my worst hit ever, perhaps. Im going to see a doctor that I got off the ouch site. Surely he knows what this is all about. |

Title: Re: INDOCIN???????????????????? Post by madaline on May 18th, 2006, 6:53pm I took Indocin as an abortive for about 5 years and it was great, then all of a sudden it just stopped working. Now I am on Verapamil (600mg. TR every night) as a preventer , and Excedrine with anything with caffeine in it, as an abortive. Tried the lithium but it made me catatonic, even at a low dose. Oxygen did nothing for me, even with that nonrebreather mask. I use Zomig with k10 attacks. Ten years, and still hoping it will end. Madaline. |

Title: Re: INDOCIN???????????????????? Post by Gator on May 19th, 2006, 2:13am I'm not saying the Indocin will work. It doesn't work for most clusterheads, me included. That being said, two days isn't really long enough a trial to get an honest feeling for whether or not a preventative med will work. Extra hard hits can come at random regardless of what med you are ramping up on. What dosage are you up to? You can go all the way up to 300mg is what my neuro told me. I agree you should find a neuro who knows something about clusters as soon as possible. The doctors on the OUCH site were all recommended by CH sufferers or their supporters, so they should all fit that bill. YMMV |
