Title: Norvasc Post by fireball on Apr 21st, 2006, 11:47am My husband was just prescribed this medication. We were told it works in a manner similar to verapimil (which never helped my husband, even at the very high doses). Has anyone been on this med and if so, what were the results / side effects? Thank you. |

Title: Re: Norvasc Post by Bob_Johnson on Apr 21st, 2006, 9:29pm I have never seen this med mentioned for use with cluster and a search of the National Library of Medicine (PubMed) produced zero hits. |

Title: Re: Norvasc Post by Jbrigham77 on Apr 21st, 2006, 10:21pm I know that Novasc is used for hypertension, the same as Verapamil is generally used for. My father is a heart patient and took it some time ago. Its a calcium channel blocker as well, it relaxes the blood vessels in the body, thus lowering blood pressure. I am new to CH(diagnosised anyhow) but haven't seen anything about treating them with Norvasc. I know that it should only be taken once every 24 hours though. |

Title: Re: Norvasc Post by Lizzie2 on Apr 22nd, 2006, 12:29am It has to do with the fact that in the category of calcium channel blockers, there are actually 3 sub-categories that further distinguish the calcium channel blockers from one another. Norvasc isn't in that same subcategory as Verapamil which is why it may not work and you won't find much info on it. I apologize for the brevity and lack of explanation, but it's late and I work tomorrow. When I get a free day, I'll try to add more info! Take care, Carrie :) |

Title: Re: Norvasc Post by Not4Hire on Apr 22nd, 2006, 4:58pm ...sorry, no good news here in regard to Norvasc. I have taken it for years, both in and out of cycle, and it made no difference. Same for Atenolol (another hypertension med) and indomethacin (for my arthritic knees) which is also used to effectively treat "ice-pick headache"-- a variation that is NOT cluster headache. (I really hate using that term: cluster headache--it trivializes the MOFO) anyway, results/side effects of Norvasc: it keeps my BP down (a GOOD thing) and many of those BP meds make ya pee like a race horse--they are diuretics. ...progress thru chemistry? Try this: http://www.clusterbusters.com Good luck and DEMAND OXYGEN..... click the button at left<<<< |

Title: Re: Norvasc Post by fireball on Apr 22nd, 2006, 5:54pm Thank you to all who responded. We have the O2 in home, which doesn't work for him. Also, he has the imitrex injections, which don't help. He's gone the clusterbusters route, too. At this point he is non-reponsive to everything. I was hoping the new med may make a difference, but I always hope for the best when a new one is tried. Thank you again for the info! |
