Title: Triggers
Post by Dragnlance on Feb 14th, 2006, 9:37am
I know this had to have been a topic before, but what the hay.

What are your triggers?

I have several. Peanut butter, almond flour, walnut flour, mold spores, reading while in a moving vehicle, fast spinning (like on carnival rides). Watching the spinning on TV where the camera seems to be moving, bouncing ect.  :-X

I know I am forgetting some others, but that is what comes to mind at the moment.

when D is in cycle his triggers include:  stress, nuts, shellfish, alcohol, sleep . . . ummmm maybe cheap candles, stuffy air, otc medications, some perscriptions, and uhhhhhhh probably tons more . . but those are the big ones . . .
if he's not in cycle, he can do pretty much whatever . .  .
even if he's not having h/as, i hate to see him order shrimp!  and as much as we all love shellfish, i NEVER cook it anymore.

Maybe they're optical disturbances? I think that's fairly common among us.

None......being chronic for 30 years is enough without any bullshit triggering it off.....it triggers its self!

Alcohol & Life - Due to its instantaneous triggering of attacks I had no trouble giving up alcohol (although I miss having a beer every now and then).

I have no plans to stop living so I guess I'm committed to living with this nightmare.

For me:
1 - Alcohol, even a half glass of beer will do it.
2 - Perfume that contains Orris root.  I was allergy tested and had a major reaction to Orris root, the number 1 ingrediant in perfume that makes the scent last.
3 - Oxygen deprivation

Funny (or not so funny) story -
I just ended my 6 week cycle this past Tuesday night.  That same night I get a call to take my mother to the E.R. the next morning to check out what might be a broken foot.  So, I pick her up at 7am and she gets in my car LOADED with perfume!  I was pissed (cussing to myself), but not going to take it out on my 86 year old mother.  I drove all the way to the hospital with my head out the window, with other drivers wondering what the heck was wrong with me - it was only around 20f outside.  I sat on the opposite side of the waiting room from her until she got checked in.  By this time the CH was kicking in pretty good.  As soon as she was taken back to be seen I bolted outside and walked around the hospital for a while and aborted it.  Parents - God love em.

I did forget to mention the alcohol, but I have noticed something there. I found with home-brews, if they have not aged long enough, and the yeast is still active, WOW, what a way to PISS OFF the monster!! 2 sips and the monster is turning my skull to mush!!!

On a good day, I can nurse a single beer for an hour or two, without repercussions.

As for the motion, Nani described it much better than I.
I sit close to where the smokers go for their hit, and I find the smell also triggers me. I was unaware of that until I was moved to this spot 2 weeks ago.

It seems like nothing triggers them unless it is time for them.

Sometimes any corn product will trigger a cluster.

Stress of critically ill friend or relative, and job stress definitely make a cycle worse.

Some articles say alcohol is a trigger. I don't drink much, but wherever I am, day or night, awake or asleep, when it peaks, I wish I had a drink.

This is actually my first post here at CH so I'll begin with a mini history...

I'm a 22 year old who has been suffering with cluster headaches since I was 7 years old. I'm fairly active, I walk about 3 miles every day, am active in aerobic like excersises (to keep this PG  :)), and I am a fairly well adjusted college student.

With that said, I have not found specific triggers. I've had allergy tests, changed life-styles more times than I can count, and nothing I find is a trigger. One day/hour/minute the headache is not there, the next it is there destroying my life. It is difficult to find a trigger, I think, especially when you are active and have at one moment a set routine and the next just sort of living life for the moment.

Trust me, if I found the said trigger, I would be avoiding it like the plague or doing something to lessen the effects that it has. Until then, I am doomed to suffer.

By the way, I have been suffering from this present one for the past 9 weeks, have been to the ER once, and have absolutely no relief whatsoever.

Never, ever taking a sauna when I'm in cycle again.

Hi all, My triggers include :

Strong smells (perfume or petrol etc)
Alchohol
heat and strong sunlight
smoking to much (wish i could stop but i bloody need them)
Spinning rides at theme park
Letting myself get too hungry.

There's probably more and i'm sure the beast will make sure he finds some.

I'm fine when i'm not in a cycle. Nothing seems to bother me.

I have no idea.  My hits come at the same times (within 30 minutes) everyday within cycle.  I don't drink and don't smoke (I know...what do ya do?).  Its hip to be be square as Huey would say, but the beast doesn't give a damn.
