Title: New laptop
Post by fubar on Mar 19th, 2004, 2:59pm
Well, being PF does have its perks...

I was able to help IBM out by appearing on one of their security-related commercials, and they said they'd give me something nice for the work I did (which I did not ask to get paid for, btw)

Well, I just got a box that included their top-of-the-line ThinkPad T41.  Holy smokes Batman, this thing is loaded.  60 gig hard drive, super fast processor, built-in wireless and bluetooth... dang.

Now I have to load 500 Mbytes of fixes and security updates on it, but who's complaining?  Not me.  I got's me a new toy!

Fubar,
Great news, by the way which one, is it on their web site?

Mark,
I am sitting here reading a web page on GNU/Linux Mandrake, using netscape, and I here the windoze start up sound with the normal error sounds, I thought I had gone mad!!!! What a great flash, I can't believe that everything works, the bleeding paperclip is a riot, I haven't tried the reboot, I wonder if it is like the fake reboot that wine has?

edit, Mark, can you post the URL, for some reason I can't grabe it from the page.

Yeah, I think I might just sell the 'old' one, but it's not exactly old and not very affordable!  It's a nice IBM Thinkpad T30, fully loaded.  I think I paid about $3000 total for it (lot's of memory) and I have boatloads of apps installed on it.  I doubt I'll get anything near what it's worth, but it's just going to sit here now that I'm moving off of it.

I guess it can't hurt to have a spare around.

And NO.

NO NO NO.

You can never have too many toys.

Hmmmm 500 fixes?
Why not just download three?

That would be the simple solution.
Nice machine by the way congrats.
All I got was a HP NC6000 W/SuSe 9.0

Kirk,

Not a bad idea at all... I think I'll load up the 'old' laptop with some incarnation of linux.  I usually boot it with my knoppix cd anyway...

Man, am I behind on technology.  I just stepped up to a Coleco from my Timex Sinclair.  Have you got that kind of memory?  If so, you got this thing beat.  With additions, I hear I can install Super Pong.
I still have my basic programs I wrote from 1973.  HP came out with an affordable calculator about then.

Ahead of his time,  for '73, and still ahead of '73.
