Title: Women CHs
Post by HypnoticFreddy on Mar 16th, 2004, 9:43pm
Please don't take this the wrong way, but it seems I see more posts from women. Now I know CHs are male-predominant. However, maybe girls just gab and post more? I don't know. I am a male and was just curious. Maybe CHs aren't so male-predominant?

Freddy,

Haven't you heard that women don't get clusters. They must just like to gab. LOL

Well, there is the totally mistaken  notion that women don't get ch. I think we've deflated that baloon here  and yeah, I do think our gals tend to be just a bit gabbier than the guys. OMG, heading for the bomb shelter now. lol

We'll find you, Kip.  LOL

Some of us think that the incidence is much greater in women that "they" think, just more often misdiagnosed because it is believed to be male dominant.

Hypno,

Earlier material on clusters usually mentioned that male thing but reality is, the many women here are true examples that they can update that theory.  Cluster pain cracked the female brain too.  I know I wouldn't want to go there, but clusters ain't afeard.  I wish it was just in males, then they wouldn't have to suffer too, but fat chance.  They are brave, talkative, but brave.  They get'um believe me, and I hope the one's that do are here too.
Some are the most FANTASTIC supporters.  That is
real strength and committment.  They do a lot.

Tread carefully there, you don't want some of them in your head.  Some, who I won't mention, ok, Kim and Cootie.  Praise the lord they aren't psychologists.  We men would be on street corners yelling at cars after a session.  Then comes the mumbling aloud on busses.  Be happy their WITH us.
I getting scared just talking about it.

I was not here,

Kevin M

I agree that women have been mis-diagnosed over the years and are only now starting to pop out of the woodwork, so to speak.

I believe we will eventually find the spread even. It seems logical to me that if the cause is a deformed/damaged hypothalamus, it should be present equally in both sexes.

On the other hand, it doesn't appear the gift of gab is present equally in both sexes.  ;;D *runs for shelter*

Went to a prominent neurologist at a medical universiy that told me it wasn't possible for me to have CH since they only happen to men.
He also didn't know how to write out a script for oxygen, and only did so because I insisted and instructed on how, and because I was able to let him know I knew more than he did.  All of this solely because of this site. I told him where to go if he wanted to learn more.  No double entdre intended.  Saw him on the evening news the other day as THE expert on the subject and taking call-ins.  Wanted to be sick at the ineptitude.  Have to admit that I've been lurking here, but sure have learned more than that neurologist did in his however many years of schooling.

I think the ratio of men to women with clusters will even out in the near future. The number of women on this site proves that.

Now there is a need to get the doctor schools to toss out the out-of-date books and move into the (at least) the 20th century.

And women do talk more than men.
It's always yap, yap, yap on the way to the fridge.
And yak, yak, yak all the way back with your beer.
They usually talk so much they forget to open it.
Damn wimmin.

One thing we were informed of at last years convention, is that a doc receives all of FIVE hours on headaches.  ALL headaches.  So you think in that five hours, they would stand a chance at knowing what we know?  Wouldn't it be nice if each of them simply spent that five hours on this site and OUCH - they would learn far more than their brief mention in med school.

There is too much we don't know about CH, and that's what our goal is, to learn more and find out what's going on.  Women get CH, and the predominance of CH overall is thought to be much higher than the 'stats' show.

One of the things OUCH is working on is a prevalance study with the NECH.  All we can do is push them to move forward with it, and then it will benefit us all.

Oh yeah, women do talk more,

Sometimes our loud and talkative (and often obnoxious) ways get things done,

You guys get things done too, us wimmen folk just tend to be alot louder and more stubborn so we don't let go til we get our way ;)

LOL!

Since I'm a woman and don't get CH, think I"ll go take something for my meegrane now... LOL!

Don't know what the ratio is nowadays as to male/female sufferers, but it's getting higher cause we're getting diagnosed "correctly" a little more these days.

And I agree, docs would be better off to spend those few hours here than on outdated books and misconcieved notions about CH.

Maybe us "talkative" women folks can let them in on that one....

Wow I didn't expect so many responses.

In general women do gab, although I do too and I am (at last check) a man.

With respect to Neuros not being educated in CHs, that is a scary thought. The last one I saw in Long Island, NY told me that 80% of his patients sufferred from headaches and was the primary reason for their visits.

I wonder how that holds up with other Neuros, and specifically with the one I see next week (who is new and in CT).

I read a research article, I think by Goadsby, in the past week or two.  It again stated the ratio areound 2.5 : 1

WDGCH (except maybe the ones with mustaches).

The medical types are way behind the curve on this. From my experience, women are supposed to get all the headaches....so often migraines. I have to wonder just how many of these migraine sufferers have clusters instead or clusters as well? We learn more every day.

Don't know what we'd do without wimmin gabbing here. We hunter-gatherers need the competition otherwise we'd all..........you know........have a hard time.......sayin stuff.....I think......

I think the other way around.  I think a lot of the ladies think they have CH but really have meegraines.  It's all part of the plot to demasculate men.  They can't let us have a bigger, badder headache than they do.

Look for the ladies with facial hair, they have CH.
