Title: Dalai Lama and CH.com
Post by SommelierCH on Mar 10th, 2004, 10:27am
The moment you think of others with a sense of caring, however, your mind widens. Within that wider angle, your own problems appear to be of no significance, and this makes a big difference. If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficult situations and problems. With this strength, your problems will seem less significant and bothersome. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm. This is a clear example of how one's way of thinking can really make a difference.

This is the basis of faith healing as well. That the power of the mind is a wonderous thing.

Also, as discussed in another section on this board, that there are forms of psychiatry that deal with looking at things in a different manner, retraining yourself on how to think.  If you are able to do that, then you can move beyond the issue you have as you are not stuck in the self harming circle that we find ourselves in at times.

PF Wishes to you,
Tia

Slammy,

What up, bro?

I was thinking more in the vein of—Because of  CH.com I can see all the crap that everyone is going through, Chronics, heart attacks, tumors and my pain seems so small in comparison. CH.com takes me out of my own little world and shows me the bigger picture. Bottom line is, thinking of others does make easier to cope. It just seemed apropos.

Well.......

Nice stuff. The Dalai Lama is a pretty weird duck some  of the time--Nonetheless:

I think that between attacks, and certainly when we found this and other clusterhead sites, and between sobbing, reached a new level of caring, acceptance, empathy, and even joy. I know that after years of "Why me?" I found that sadly, I wasn't alone.....and by the way, you're all right about meeting other clusterheads.  I can't put that into words. It's unikew.

I'm hangin in, David.  But, in the spirit of your thread, I know what you are saying.  There's this guy, Cary, who is the father of my son's best friend, who is in a bad way.  We coached little league together and I have coached his son in football and basketball for several years.  He and his wife, and another couple, would go out with me and Regina and have dinner and drinks about twice a month.
We just found out that he has cancer that has spread into his liver.  It doesn't look good.  He came home from the hospital and we chatted for a bit.  He is just praying that he lasts 2 years to see his daughter and son graduate.... man!  That is tough!  I've got this knot in my stomach since then... can't seem to shake it!   :'(
