Title: Goin Solo?
Post by kim on Mar 4th, 2004, 10:38pm
For the first time in a laWng time cycle is starting WITHOUT insurance....i'm wondering how it might be to got through a cycle med-free.....done it b4, but not in a long time.   In the beginning seems possible.  After all this time......i still feel like i'm under water in suspended state.  Never was good at rational panic.

Any ideas????

O2!  It is relatively cheap, and works for me.  Also, Verap and Lithium are not all that expensive as preventatives.

Other than that, what works for me is focusing my mind on something else that I can do with my hands while trying to fend off the beast.  Not 100 percent effective, but I can usually work through one if I don't get hit unexpectedly.

No insurance is no fun.  Haven't had it in 20years, and no one will insure me at a rate I can possibly afford.

Wish you the best!  IT WILL END!!!

Sounds shitty Kim.  >:(

Got my first attack in 1969 and quit my Blue Cross the same year back in the good old days when I had some surgery for $500. I got back on insurance in 1983 when I got clobbered with gall-bladder surgery. It seemed like such a big deal back then...wasn't much more than $2,000 total.   :-/

Damn insurance runs me about $3,000 a year now. Bastards.  >:(

Things were different for me probably with 20 minute episodics and that the circulatory thing works so well. I guess there's only O2 and the technique that I can offer.

Sorry you have to deal with insurance as well as the horror.

No insurance and  little cash?

Melatonin, oxygen, psilocybin, and verapamil are all relatively inexpensive.

Only other thing I can think of is the water treatment. You might have to be up 6 times a night to pee but if it helps....  :-/

Also only of the things that I do that seems kind of crazy but at least seems to make my middle of the night attack not take so long to get through is a cold washcloth (hell I've even wrapped a washcloth around a bag of ice) and I roll it us and place it behind my neck when I lay down to try and fall asleep. Dont know if it is the shrinking of the bloodvessles up into my head or what but it helps me and might be worth giving it a try.

I hope it is not bad for you sweetie.

Tried this once when travelling on business, no meds or O2. I read this in one of the headache orgs newsletters,
don't remember which one now but it was specifically directed at ch.

Hot shower, as hot as you can stand, for 5 minutes. Then turn off  the hot water completely and do a cold shower for another 5. It aborted the ch almost immediately but I haven't had the guts to try it again. If nothing else it will sure as hell  wake you up. And it's about as low cost as you can get. Best of luck.

Can't tell ya how comforting it is knowing i'm not so ALONE.

Ole kimmer has her "habitual ritual" to fallback on in tough times.  I leaned that lil two-step all by myself years ago.....

So, i'll get the tub ready, i'll brew the coffee (24 hours - 7 days a week) and i'll do what i've done over and over more times that i can count.

The medicine is not going to perform miracles.....so i will learn to live without it anyhow....i'm purdy good at dat.

The one thing that means so much.......the one thing that makes my throat close up....the one thing that makes me smile at the end of the road is all you guys****can't thank ya's enough***

i know i can be troublesome and argumentative, and downrite weird at times.  Tough shit.  I ain't changin. ;;D

I loves yas more than i can ever say****

Thanks.

I went through my 2000 cycle without any meds.  It was hot scalding showers, gallons of coffee, O2 and dramamine that got me through.  It can be scary, but you can get through it!  Clusters will NOT kill you, just keep remembering that.

Kim, miss ya. Love ya.
Hot shower, hot black coffee, ice packs.
It will get you through it....
and honey, ORGASMS, they DO work if only for a few minutes and I am 42 goin' on 43.  It's not easy to achieve and it might be easier if you try it on your own... didn't Elaine and a few others give their approval to the "rabbit"  LOL!!  Hey, I'm gettin' one!

But truly, the only other thing I can suggest, which helped me a few times, is a tiny bit of tabasco up the nose (I applied it with my little finger) and/or ice packs on the bottoms of your feet.

We are the survivors.  Those of us who could not get help medically and still had to raise our children.  We found ways to do it and you will again.

Love you Kim, my twin in clusters.

I'm moving back east around May... some time while I'm there, we must meet somehow....

Sherry
