Title: diagnosed last night
Post by loraine35 on Feb 27th, 2004, 7:21pm
I'm very scared today. last night I was taken to the ER by the ambulance. I was sure- absolutelysure I had a brain tumor that was going to explode my head. The Dr. told me it was just a "cluster headache" go home.
groggy and feeling better from the IV drugs I was given
I thought every thing would be OK until I researched it online. Now I'm terrified that this could happen again.
I'm glad I do not own a gun. Help.

Well, try not to be too terrified, although that is one of the main problems with this malady ( the fear of the next one)  take a little time, read all of the stuff on the left, then reasearch the meds and ch specific boards, arm yourself with some info, go see your doctor, get and appointment with a neurologist, preferably one that is familiar with cluster headaches, then hang around and learn.  Welcome aboard.

A similar incident happened at work.  A girl was taken away in an ambulance due to a terrible headache.  It was scary to her.  However, it hasn't happened again since and she takes no medication.
 We are here.

I'm glad you dont either cause I would have shot the fucking doctor. "Just" a cluster headache.

Anyway. Dont be terrified. If it has not been happening a lot there is a very good chance that it is not cluster.  I had migraines about once or twice a year since I was 16 and last July I started having 5 Headaches a day and thought I was going insane.  It was nothing like a migrain. not sensitive to light, noise, nothing like that but the nausia and sleep did not help, hell I could not sleep.  There was no way that I could lay down.  Dont take the ER docs word for it. Go see your doc, keep track of your headaches and read up. Take the cluster quiz to the left.  I pray that it is not clusters for you, but if it is you are int he right place.

Pain Free Wishes for you,
Tiannia

jonny, I so hope you are right. I can see where living through that kind of pain would not be an option for me.
I'm going to log off now because I'm alittle to scared right now. hopefully like you said it was just one not a start. thanks anyway though.

Hi Lorie,

You need to go to a neuroligist to have a proper diagnosis to whatever happened to you.  Try to find a neuroligist that specializes in headaches. These headaches seem to happen approximately the same time each day and or night forming a pattern during a "cycle".  When they depart, a remission period begins following by another cycle.  The cycles could be two, three times a year, every other years, or years inbetween cycles.  Everybody seems to be a little different.

If it is cluster headaches, there are a number of options available to abort single headaches.  If nothing is taken, they would go away on their own, usually within 2 hours max (for most of us).  In the meanwhile, try to educate yourself as much as possible.  It might be too early to take the "cluster quiz" to your left, but when you can-do it.

Come back here often as many people here have much more experience than me and can advise and support you during this difficult time.

Good luck,

John

I am very, very sorry, and this is not really funny, but I am still LMFAO at the stark candor with which it was said.  I was going to wait longer, but she said she logged off.  OMG.  I appologize.

I hope you're not having to deal with this horror as well. Unfortunately clusterheads have to begin somewhere. I too thought I was a gonner when I was first hit. If I remember, there was nearly a whole day until my next one. Shortly they settled down into a routine of 4 or more a day.

They won't kill you and you will survive. There are drugs and some good doctors around. There are lots of good ideas here and if you are suffering, I hope you stick around and let us know how you're doing.

One thing thats good about CH is that it WONT kill you like a brain tumor...unless of course  if you have a gun nearby.
I'm hoping for you that it was a one time thing.  If not, go and get a proper diagnosis.
Wishing you well,
Suzy

Seems like if this was your first severe headache, the ER doc would've (should've) done some tests (like an MRI) to rule out other serious illnesses. I agree w/ the rest, better get a neuro soon.

Hopefully you won't become one of us

Goodluck

I still got my second edition from '98.  It's the book that my first neuro gave me after being treated over a year by my regular doc.  He opened it up to clusters and said, "is this it?"  Info on clusters was hard to find.  THAT"S IT!  Since then I've lived crappily ever after.
