Title: Virus?
Post by Jimi on Feb 25th, 2004, 1:02pm
I keep getting Mail Delivery Subsys.....Returned Mail:User Unknown flooding my email account. Everytime I check it, I have 10-12 messages of the same thing. I have never opened them. I always delete it. I ran my virus check but it did not pick up anything. You think I have a virus?

The mydoom virus generated that message.
Worth checking for that one specifically

That's the problem Thomas. I haven't sent an email to anyone on my hotmail account in 5-6 days.

Thanks Wendy. I was thinking that was one of the generated messages titles that that virus was sending last month.

Glad you posted this Jimi.. I also have the same thing going on with my yahoo - got this around the time you had that virus Wendy.

Anybody have a fix?? None of my virus scanners are catching it.   ::)

If anybody can give me  a fix also for all the [ADULT] emails someone subscribed me for, I'd be forever grateful..  :D

I got a couple of those emails to - but it "blocked" the "potential unsafe attachment"... does that mean I'm ok???

I am stupid - I got three of them - and opened 1 of the emails - because i thought maybe i used a wrong address to send a couple emails to (jonny) and realized that it wasn't from anything I sent.... and noticed the blocked attachment.

UH OH - did i mess up???

Pep

I never had a virus, it was a hoax and my system was totally clean. I sent a second email immediately after the first to tell all my contacts not to worry.

Wendy... I'm not saying you passed it on to me, I got your second email remember? :)
I just noticed it after that b/c I must've gotten 4 or 5 of those return things a couple days after and ever since.  Can't even mark those as spam.

Thanks Jayne.  Glad to know you've gotten something out of those educational emails.   ;;D

Hell, I got an e-mail a couple of weeks ago from myself, and it was spam, so I'm worried now. [smiley=huh.gif]

Someone you guys know or someone that has your e-mail address in THEIR PC is sending the message out. They have the virus, not you.......I hope!

Go here (http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/home.asp?j=1&langid=ie&venid=sym&close_parent=true&plfid=22&pkj=VUPTRHYTINMHDKDCWLL) to do an on-line scan to be sure.

Safe Surfing,
Mark

I've also gotten those messages titled Mail Delivery Subsys. It's usually some sick wacko's way of getting you to think "What did I do wrong?" and open it. Then you'll find the jerk is trying to sell something. Don't open them. Delete them.
If it was a true message it would have your e-meil provider's name on it such as From: Hotmail Staff, Mail Undeliverable or something like that.

I too am getting way more spam in the past few weeks, and lots of the unknown recipient emails, and lots of emails from myself!?. All virus related but harmless (I hope) as my service providers and work have scanned them.

The content of some of the porn related stuff is very explicit with graphic pictures of all types of obscenity!

Sick world we live in.

I just delete without reading them now. No problems, it's just irritating to have an inbox full of crap that is impossible to filter out.

I read the other day that it has been suggested in high places that emails be charged for at say a penny each. On the surface it seems a cheek to charge for what has been "free" for years, but this small charge would only cost us a few dollars/pounds a month but might perhaps cripple those sick bastards trying to sell us porn and penis enlargement by sending out billions of emails daily in the hope of attracting responses from a few sad, sick minded people.

John
