Title: R.I.P Paul (1972-2004)
Post by UN_SOLVED on Feb 21st, 2004, 7:39pm
My friend just overdosed on a Morphine patch. How in the hell can you do that ?

We all seen in coming though. He drank a fifth a day and ate pills as much as he could. I don't remember the last time I talked to him when he wasn't slurring his speech. It was just a matter of time.

Live fast ~ Die fast

Anyone else using Morphine patches .. plz be careful.

Terrible news. Very young but I agree with you and the others. Probably inevitable and he is no longer in pain.

Not much comfort but you're in my thoughts.

Dunno how he  did it but I figured that when I was on the patch if I took my entire supply and stuck them all over my body it would do the job. My best friend however (an alcohlic) cured himself with a .357.That was Sept of 98 and I'm still tring to get over it.

Sorry guy.

I think maybe that fifth a day may have been a big contributor plus the pills. Not just the patch.

Why was he wearing one? Must have been some serious medical stuff going on to ?

I am so sorry to hear about your friend.  I too believe if you would stick all of them at various spots on your body well- that would do it.  In combination with the alcohol that adds to the whole problem.  I pray that your family and his are dealing with his death.  My kids are 16 & 17 and just buried a 17 year old classmate who overdosed on morphine pills. Eventhough they are not close friend with him it has effected there lives in a major way.  Not an easy thing to deal with. Keep your chin up and stay positive.  Your in my prayers!

Hey Michael,

Sorry to hear the bad news......
Death is most hurtful for the living
I have had quite a few friends like yours, last one burnt in a fire where he had a make-shift apartment over a friends garage. Middle of winter and fell asleep on the  mattress on the floor with a smoke. To make matters worse he left a 5 year old son and his girlfriend was expecting anyday.

Despite his history, he really was a great kid. Just never seemed to find the right path I guess, despite everyones efforts. Addiction has many excuses.

We feel your loss, better days will hopefully follow.

Sean

Very sorry to hear about your friend's death. I use the Duragesic Patch which is Fentanyl...I think that's the patch you're talking about. It's supposed to last up to 72 hours & him "Sucking" out the gell...(of a brand new patch, I assume) gave him a 3 day supply in minutes...that alone would probably not kill you, if someone got you to the hospital within a few hours...but that along with the alcohol & other pills will definitely do it.

If anyone takes pain medication ...please refrain from alcohol & listen to the prescribing instructions...if your dose is not cutting it...talk to your doctor...& please tell your Doc about every med you take including Nicotine & Alcohol.

Sorry about your loss unsolved.

Jimmy

You should know that this is a common addictive behavior and not neccesarily an attempt to take his life.

Many people who are on the patch and suffer from addiction do the same thing. Addicts will buy patches for that reason. He may have been doing it for a while and his system simply reached toxic levels. Throw in the alcohol and other pills and you have a lethal combo.

Dear Unsolved-

I am so very sorry for the loss of your friend.  I do not know you perosnally but I can still pray for you and keep you in my thoughts.

As far as I know there is no such thing as a "morphine" patch but there is a "Duragesic" patch which has a very powerful narcotic gel in it called "Fentanyl". I'm on 100 mcg Duragesic Patch and I change it every 2 days.  This medication is to be respected and taken seriously.

Again, I am so sorry about your friend and my heart goes out to you.       Samantha
