Title: Imitrex Users: Important
Post by ozzman on Feb 13th, 2004, 10:41am
Posted the same thing on the meds side, but it might have bigger exposure over here...

Funny thing yesterday. I took my Trex NS, felt it working immediately, tingling sensation on the scalp and then ...
chest pain. Upper left side, going down my left arm and cold sweating. Not really dizzy, but very, very tired.

Before everyone says that Imitrex gives you chest tightness, let me tell you *this was not it*. I have felt that chest tightness before and it was nothing like that.

Call my Dr., he said to go to the ER. I did. Blood work, chest X-rays and EKGs normal all of them. The ER Dr. said that sometimes triptans do that, they just constrict the hell out of the whole vascular system. Told me to see a cardiologist to make sure I can tolerate triptans in the future..

Anyway, anyone relate?

Ozzy

Glad things came out OK.

I've used same, don't remember that much of a reaction though.  Still the same, I've cut down and gone to O2 at home.

Ozzy

Same here, that's exactly why I keep my Imigran for emergencies and use 02 most of the time. I don't like the idea that I am constricting ALL the vessels, not just the relevant ones.

Thanks for the heads up Ozz. I use the trex spray as well. I'm fortunate in that I have low blood pressure(105/70) so I can tolerate it fairly well. But it never hurts to be more aware of the problems that can arise. PFDAN Glen

Kevin, Wendy and Mac Thank you for your kind words.

As far as you Tracey, at least *I* wasn't chewing on aspirin las night like some people..  ;)

yeah I can make light of the situation, because it is over with, for now. The cardiologist might have a different view, but first I need an appointment. So we'll see.

Tracey, I mean it, take care of yourself!

Glad you are OK Oz,
I have been lucky in that trex has been very good to me...so far! The only adverse reactuion Ihave had was to oral Imitrex @ 50mg, that sucker made me feel like s*it!, weak, dizzy, etc. Injection or other oral meds have never done that...yet.

Long live shrooms and O2!

you will know more when you have seen a cardiologist. I have had to see one because of the side effekt of trex. They took an ecg whilst cycling my heart is in exelent condition it seems. I was told that there is no danger for mr to use it. I am glad to here that it is ok with you. I myself now only use half a dose alwas injections because the spray dose not work. I always try to abort with ice first and resort to trex if that fails.
Wish you luk
