Title: Arrangement with neurologist
Post by CJohnson on Feb 10th, 2004, 12:19pm
My neurologist told me, at my last visit, that when the headaches creep up again to call his office and let them know and that they will call in my prescriptions right away. He said that, over the years, he has refined and tweaked a med regimen that is very effective for most of his cluster patients. He told me that it wasn't necessary for me to come to the office as long as the routine is effective. Just a phone call and a trip to the pharmacy.

Is this a common arrangement others have with their neuro?

Our neuro in the UK will give Wes a repeat prescription without seeing him, but I wouldn't have thought it was good practice to hand out meds without examining the patient at least once...just my opinion Hope they work for you.

Ditto here, Curtis. After 2 visits (1 week apart)with the neuro, all I have to do is call the office, talk to the "meds nurse," and scripts for approved meds are handed out like candy - Verap/O2/Trex nasal/Zomig tabs. Not sure what will happen if they stop working and there's a need to start dancing on the Dark Side. Will face that one when it's head rears. Just damned glad I lucked into a responsive neuro, as well as a GP that's on my side.

Phew,
RJ

This is exactly how mine is set up. I actually call in to a nurse who is knowledgable about CH and she relays any concerns to the neuro. It avoids me having to call numerous times just to speak to the neuro. Usually within a couple of hours, she will call back and let me know what my doc said, and I can go pick up the RX if needed. Last episode which lasted 3.5 months, I tried probably 6 different meds, but only saw my neuro once. Got O2 script this way also...

My neuro was a worthless piece of bantha fodder!

One visit, tried to kill me, and I went back to my GP for treatment. He handles all of my CH needs and only has to see me once per cycle unless other issues arise. I love that man! (did I just say that out loud???) :P

I have to have one office visit for about 15 mins a year, it's usually, how are ya.....yadayadayada...... when my cycle starts, I call the nurse, tell her what I need, she phones the script into my pharmacy...... that's it.

I have seen 3 neuros and 5 family practice drs over the years with my insurance changes.  I have always had to go in every 3 months and be seen by the neuro and my reg dr I have to see every month to get my perscriptions.  It is a total pain in the , well you get the point.  I am chronic it isn't like anything ever changes.
