Manually update your virus definitions on Norton's; then run a scan.  Check also for "windows update" under "tools" section of internet explorer browser--install all critical updates.

This is probably one of the stupid annoying IE popups that take over your screen....  If it wants you to buy something it is an advert not a virus....  The virus here is Microsoft....   My mom got hit with this one this morning and called me in a panic.

Alt+Tab out of that screen, then go to you task manager and kill the application with the IE explorer icon that coresponds with the virus warning page...  Take note where you were when you got the page and don't go back...  Use a pop-up blocker etc....

That is my take on it....

I jus seen a tool to remove it 'if I remember correctly' (boy there's a tough call) on one of the antivirus web sites ! Mite wanna check on Norton's web page and let them instruct you what to do cuz that's where I think I saw it. I also downloaded 'stinger' to run and help check for that kinda crap. Only a bug away from a virus Pam

PS: or yeah it could be jus a pop up wanting you to download sumthing to check for it or buy that scans for it. Check the anitvirus web site and maybe see if there is a 'check or scan' offer'd for it to be sure ! Pop ups and spam spell scam to me.

Don't know about all of you but the mydoom virus (Norton is blocking it every time though Ree) is completely clogging up my email. I have already had more than 40 attacks from it today, and every time I check for new mail I am getting a boxful of them.

For me this is the worst ever for saturation coverage!

It is exactly what athos has said. Follow his instructions and the pop up will begone. Its an ad. not a virus.

Hello Ree!
Here is some links to freeware to remove pop-ups....you and many other pppls computers are probably full of spyware! there are a few different programs to get rid of it(the spyware) but there are a few that are really effective so these are the links.
This one is spybot search and destroy, download, install, and then update using the update feature, then immunize your computer and it will block 500+ known ads and spyware permanently. then run a check and fix all problems. If there are any probs after thatthere is a recovery option as well.

This is another spyware remover, but like all these spyware nukers, they should be run once a week to ensure there is no spyware on your computer. This one is called ad-aware, download the free version and it removes most of the stuff...dont forget to update these products tho, they are constantly finding new spyware ads and adding them to the protection lists...updates good...spyware bad...lol.
Hope this will help....

Oh yeah, if you are running Norton Antivirus, it is important that you have live-update turned on so that it can automatically update your virus definitions...the new virus definitions come out every Wednesday for live update. You can manually download the definitions athttp://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/download/pages/US-N95.html
The file to 'open' looks something like
20040204-004-i32.exe
date - release# - OS
Hope this helps Ree girl!

Regarding the Novarg/Mydoom virus...

There is a fix tool available from several companies for free download.  I got a copy from Symantec's web site yesterday, they were up to version 5.  Luckily, I recently had to start a new e-mail box, so it's pretty clean regarding spam and crap, so I haven't been hit.

As for spy-ware, those are insidious pices of sh!t.  those @#&$*#& should be dealt with violently....they are really threatening to ruin the potential that this technology has to help the world in mt estimation...then again, what has been the only thing in reality on the internet to ever really make any money so far?

Porn.  :-/

Guess we shouldn't be that surprised about what went down at the Suberbowl then...

Back to Spyware.  Spy-bot is a pretty good product.  I recently updated it's signature files for the first time in a while, and it went from searchign for about 6000 nasties to about 12000 nasties.  Theseprograms, cookies, registry entries not only track your movements on the web without your knowledge, they also clog up your computer and WILL comprimise your computer's performance if left unchecked.  Before I installed the program I was getting blue screens left and right, and nothing was fixing it.  First time I ran the scan it found over 200 problems...had to run it a few times before it could fix everything, but my old computer has run MUCH better since.

Some of my friends advocate using several spyware checkers in tandem with Spy-bot...I'm not as picky.  But you certainly these days NEED to use something for spyware IN ADDITION to a quality anti-virus program.  THEY ARE NOT THE SAME THING.

Live updates only changes every wendsday, the best way is to get daily definitions from here.

Norton (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/download/pages/US-N95.html)

This is a big file, 4.4MB today, so it might be a long download for dialup. This download is updated daily.

Probably not a bad idea but be aware that one spy ware program will identify the other spy ware program AS spy ware. LMAO. Thats business I guess!
