Title: question
Post by bobbiA on Jan 30th, 2004, 1:34am
ok i was griping to a friend of mine about the absolute hideous price of imitrex...he said that he gets his imitrex in 'generic' form...imigran...from a canadian pharmacy...the prices are amazing!  has anyone done this?  i crossed matched the name with GSK and Imigran is the name of the drug and Imitrex is the Rx name...so its the same thing right?  i found a canadian pharmacy that sells the pills for 33 dollars for a packet as opposed to 162 dollars for an imitrex packet here..
information of any kind please?  anyone have experience with this?

In South Africa and in the UK it is called Imigran and called Imitrex in the USA when it is the exactly the same product made by the same company Glaxo Smith Kline is a mystery to me, probably just a marketing thing. but Imigran is NOT generic Imitrex. It is exactly the same thing. Here is the proof:

http://www.gsk.com/products/imigran_uk.htm
http://www.gsk.com/products/imitrex_us.htm

As for the tablets they may be good for migraines, but IMHO they are fuckin useless for CH!

Get the injections, they work much better.

i found a site that i can order the injections..the spray AND the pills for  an amazing amount less then in the US...thankfully i have friends close to the border who can go to guadalajara (sp) and get them and mail them to me cause they dont mail them out of mexico..there ARE companies that do mail from canada and mexico...but the cheapest way is to go TO mexico...i can get 30 pills 50 mg for 64 bucks and 30  200mg for 72 bucks...to me thats a huge savings!  i read the GSK page and  got the info about imigran..TRUE  it is the same...so by next week hopefully ill have a good supply to stash or keep me going while i do battle with tricare...
also...
i encourage STRONGLY that you all write mail  to glaxo smith kline and chew them out for making it damned near impossible to afford these meds...i think its absolutely ridiculous that MY quality of life is held hostage by the company that proclaims to be so compassionate and caring and worldwide helpful..bullshit...what about people that suffer and cant possibly afford these meds...what about the kids that need them?  please write GSK an e-mail..maybe if they are flooded with them they might consider taking action to find a way to lower the cost..

I don't think it is entirely GSK...our insurance/healthcare system plays a major part in drug pricing IMO.

Hello bobbi A,

By the time the imitrex pill is absorbed by your body the headache is at least 1/2 to 3/4 over already.  The injections work in less than 5 minutes with me and the headache never develops beyond a certain point if taken early enough.  The shots are practically painless and extremely short and fine needle by stat dose injector.  Usually the doctor will give you the stat dose pen and a few samples to try unless you have a heart condition.

I am assuming that you do not have medical insurance?

Keep us informed on your progress.

John

They are exactly the same thing and if that works for you then have at it.  However it is true that the mailing will cost a fortune.  But if your near the boarder... well it's vaction time right.  Good luck with it.

As for the outragoues prices i don't care who is making it  :o incredibally expansive.....KILL THEM ALL!!!!!!!
sorry i just had to get out some frustration.

I've been getting Rx meds of several types from Canada for 3-years. Good service & ethical outfit: www.LePharmacy.com.

Because the Canadian version of the FDA has standards as good as the U.S., I would prefer that source vs. other sources in the world. You may find lower prices but quality control is an unknown.

US pays for the R&D and the reast of the world reaps the benefit.

Average cost to get approval for use of a single medication through the FDA..800 million.

Drug co.'s budget for advertising...4 billion.

Heard this on NPR one day this week on my way to work.  The discussion was about the increasing number of Americans are getting Rx from Canada and the drug co.'s plans to stop this redirection of revenue.

One of my State representative announced his retirement from Congress.  He is now eyeing a job working as a lobbyist for the...take a guess?

Stinks on ice!

thank you all for the input....it was just something i was exploring...i actually did find a pharmacy  right across the border that sells imitrex..in that name and box...just like i get here...at HUGE savings...only problem is they wont ship across the border..but i checked out customs and it can be brought across the border without hassle...so since i have friends in yuma who go to mexico at least twice a month i can have them pick up for me and mail...that is soooooooooooooo cool!  imean like less then 100 bucks for 28 pills..and nose sprays were like 42 for 8 of them....its alot cheaper and a way to add to my Rx for a stash just in case or to help someone else....
kid..
i hear ya sweetie!  id like to kill the bastard beast..but since i cant...i spend my PF hours loving life and trying not to think ahead to when the next one is gonna hit....when they do hit....im a weener...lol  and its ok....but id sure like to just kill em!
