jonny,

you have, and sent the virus.  ev1 stripped the virus and delivered your email anyways (not infecting the recipient)   They're just letting you know you gotta take care of it.

Here's the link to a removal tool Svenn found:

http://www.bitdefender.com/html/virusinfo.php?menu_id=1&v_id=185

Might as well give it a shot, eh? Ran it here and came up clean. It's small......about 60 K.

With this virus/worm in particular, its very possible that you have NOT been infected by it and still received the message that you did.

Try the removal tool above.  If it doesn't find anything, don't worry about messages like that.  Simply put, the worm may have used your name to generate email.  It sends out email saying it is from your address hoping it will get bounced back to you, clogging up servers in the process.  Where it got your email address, who knows!

Also, this worm/virus is apparently going to make it impossible for infected systems to contact certain anti-virus vendors' web-sites.  To be safe, update you anti-virus definitions before the weekend.

The myDoom worm is expected to hit its peak in the next week.  On Sunday, a denial-of-service attack will be launched against SCO.  Tuesday, a similar attack is expected to be launched against Microsoft.

That's "geekess" to you, lol.

I had 44 infected messages, many from france, by way of a french  friend's address book...

Norton caught them all. Oh, well, it's an interesting life.

It's not bad enough we've got CH -- now we gotta have a virus on top of it.

My computer guru told me to scan every attachment before I opened it. I don't think he trusts me, so he comes in every day and does it. So far nothing has been found on mine. All my outgoing mail is scanned by Norton before it's sent.

I just don't understand why people who come up with these worms and viruses don't just do something worthwhile instead. They've got to be smart to write the programs that cause chaos on the net, so why the hell don't they just go to work at an honest job!!!!!!

Hang in there Jonny -- you'll be better in the morning....

Hugs BD

just bumping this to the top

Make sure you update your virus definitions TODAY!!!

If you are infected, there is a very good chance that on Sunday when this hits its peak, you WON'T be able to reach your anti-virus vendor's website!!!!!

It is usually script kiddies that do these things. They usually outgrow it once they learn to write code. Or get a paper route, girlfriend whatever.
If you get tired of it just chuck MS. Its not like they have a copyright on Windows.

If you can't get to your AV site to update. GOTO http://www.trendmicro.com/housecall run housecallthen go update your AV software.

Meanwhile I shall just relax and not worry about all the hub bub.

I gotta a job for life.

BTW, I have never got a virus or worm on my MS boxs at home. I am kinda geeky about that. My hobby seems to be keeping it secure.....now work is another story..geez.. ;;D

Hey jonny,
This post is being write with Linux mandrake, It is called Linux but it really is GNU/Linux, as most of the distro's come with a lot of apps written by GNU. You can put GNU/Linux on with any windows using a dual boot system. I am planning on a quad boot system, all on the same hard drive. If you don't have any special software or hardware then all that you want to do will all ready on the CD's or available for easy down load.  Although I have had some problems I do tend to push the envelope a bit. You shouldn't have too many problems and it should be easier than win 2000.

Couldn't agree with you more on that statement, jonny.

I am going to be putting together a new computer for myself and installing SuSe 9.x as the OS and KDE for the windows desktop.  From everything I have heard Linux is muuuuuuch better than M$.

....if you think you like pics of penguins...ask Kirk to send you some pics of the Penguinistas...now those pics are right up your alley!  ;)

Look at it this way Mr. Alchin VP of Windows at MS stated in Public "We can make an operating system as good as Linux.". I patiently await for this to happen.
So far no cigar.
I do wish them the best of luck with it. After all look at all the money and time people have invested in his Corporation. They surely deserve something for thier money. Don't they?

OK it's beer thirty.

With shrinking corporate budgets, I've been forced to look at "alternatives" like Linux.

I like!

...  And instead of buying 100 copies of Windows XP, I'll just keep that technician w/ 2 kids employed another year....

Doing my part,

Open office is perfectly capable of making any kind of word file, but what if the office you send it to uses a mac? `As Kirk says, no one should have trouble reading a PDF, that's why the "P" means portable.

ever heard of Oracle running on a Mac (yes there is a version, but even Oracle execs think it is a joke!)

I am sure that as soon as the CEO of Oracle, who shall remane nameless. But goes by the initials Larry Ellisen stops chasing after UFOs. I am sure something seriouswill be done for the Mac.
Can't blame Mac for that now can we?

PS. Star Office will do a file for MACs just dandy.
