Post by brain_cramps on Jan 28th, 2004, 1:57pm This morning when I woke up, the temperature here in sunny Saskatchewan, Canada was -42C (-43F) with a wind-chill of -52C (-62F). :o At noon, we are enjoying a relatively balmy -38C (-36F) with no measureable wind. Anyone else who thinks they have it cold, THINK AGAIN!!! BTW... All schools, government offices, etc... are still open! dreaming of Negril, grant 8) |

I distinctly remember visiting one holiday season and the temperatures dipping so low that advisories were given to not go outside with ANY part of your body exposed to the elements for it would freeze solid in a matter of seconds. As far as I can tell only the "absolute zero" of space can compare. Throw another log on the fire and drink alot of brandy and cognac. It doesn't get THAT cold here, but, whether its Centigrade or Farenheit 0 degrees is damn cold none the less. ;) Still shiverring...... :o Ramon |

Good thing in a few years my husband and I are moving to Siberia to do missionary work. I have been studing the weather there for over 6 years now. It is no worse there than here. In the northern parts were the reigndeer are and it gets 80 below out the natives are known to sleep outside in the open. That to me is just plain insane. |

It was so nice I put the top down on the convertible. 8) Now, in the summer it gets well into the 110's, but the humidity is only around 30% to 40%, so it's a DRY heat...bullshit...LOL Hot is hot. :P Gotta love So Cal. Can't wait to leave it...the weather is nice, though... ;) |

Mac, we call that the "square wheel syndrome" - I thought I had 4 flat tires the other day! My daughter's car is totally frozen up and it's been plugged in for 4 days. I've got an inch of ice on the inside of my windowsills right now. Have to take all ornaments off the sill or they WILL freeze to the window. It's pretty grim here, folks - no real end in sight either - not for a few days anyway. I know you're probably thinking, it is January in Canada afterall. We honestly haven't seen weather like this in years here though. So much for global warming! ::) I just worry about our homeless, our wildlife, stock and stray animals in weather like this. They found a lady in Edmonton (I think) yesterday, frozen to death on her doorstep with her key in the door. |

Nobody killed but hundreds have been left homeless. That was on Monday. Yesterday we had a big fire downtown and lost a Chinese market. Five million dollar building. Today a poultry processing plant called Lilydales burned to the ground. Hundreds unemployed now. The fire fighters are totally exhausted. They can only work about 10 minutes before they start to freeze and those huge fire hoses are freezing up in there hands. It's like the Earth is having a massive cluster attack and Western Canada is the eye. Margi, were you affected by the watermain break in Calgary? Had to rescue people who were trapped in there cars by boat! In -35 or whatever. 100,000 people without water. What the fuck is going on? |

This is just stupid cold. Banff, however is only -4° today - and we are -22°. You know it's been cold when you get excited about -22°. Haha This year in skating class we tried to teach hockey players how to do certain figure skating jumps and moves. It was funny!! Some of the ones in my class can actually do spins and a couple of jumps! LOL Have you ever played broomball? Now that's a bloody sport! I took a look outside and there was a van with Texas plates that was stuck in the ice-ruts in the middle of the street ---- He probably would have been stuck even if it hadn't snowed. After hearing he fight with the ruts for about 20 minutes, I was gettin a little tired of the noise so I decided to head out to help the guy. I ran into a Chinese guy from down the hall who was sitting at the front door laughing. "damn americans --- can't drive worth shit" I asked him "think we should go tell him to straighten out his wheels? He wouldn't be stuck for long then." His reply: "Naw -- too damn cold!" My source of free entertainment for this Saturday morning. ;;D grant |
