Title: Ouchfest '04 in Nashville during convention?
Post by Carl_D on Jan 22nd, 2004, 11:17pm
I am waiting to hear back from Johnny Holzum from "Well Hungarians" to get back to me about doing the benefit. They are an extremely good country rock band who is making some big waves in the midwest. They just finished thier new disc in Nashville, and I am pretty sure they'll be a shoe in. That would alleviate my fear of this years being a bust like last years, since they pack the house no matter where they play.
I also want to 'attempt' once again a raffle. I think if we pull together as a collective, it can work. Who knows, maybe we can even fund an advertising campaign.

All in favor say 'I'.

If the people want this to happen, then I will start scouting the area around the hotel to try and find a hall we can hold it at. It'll be (without looking it up) I believe July 16th.
I really want to pull this off, but it'll only happen if people want it to. I can't think of a better organization to do a benefit for, can you?

Peace,
Carl D

Hi Carl
on Sat night we have banquet and comedians performing so It couldn't be that night. Now you might want to call the hotel and ask if the bar which is right next door would host it. That would be the closest place as the bar door is connected to the hotel.
Jayne
Also there is a small "dive" pub which is across the street me thinks..I could find the name and # for that for you. If you are planning on doing this it should be Friday night, but not everyone will be able to make it due to flights coming in etc.

Not to burst your bubble or anything
Carl, but in my humble opinion,
it might be too much, with the
Convention going on at the same
time as an OUCHfest.

I am not trying to be negative
about your idea, just my take on it.
Things would be pretty hectic.

Maybe not necessarily
OUCHfest, but something on a
smaller scale?

I do really appreciate the thought
& effort!   [smiley=thumb.gif]

I could be way off base too.

What say you folks?

Would it be possible to hold
an OUCH Convention &
OUCHfest at the same time?

You would have a captive audience.

Good question Carl.
Interesting.

Forgive my ramblings please.
It's 3 o'clock in the morning
.

Hey Carl, I agree with KOP and I don't want to be negitive either, but in Nashville there will be so much going on.

Think about this, maybe you could try to coordinate this with the midwest meet and greet, we have almost a year to plan it and the last one we had was a huge success, there were like fifty people.

We're still trying to decide on a location, Milwaukee, St Louis, Wisconsin Dells, Kansas City, Vagas, No one has decided yet.

Just a thought, Glad your feeling better.

RiverRat-Norm-Lee might just have a good idea there....put the OUCH Fest together with a meet & greet...no dinners or meeting there just hangin' out.

OOOOPS...oh second thought...don't pay any attention to RiverRat-Norm-Lee.  He has no idea how to throw a party and he's a T-totaler stick in the mud.  Evidence....the Davenport meet & greet.

Hey Norm...how's your rock.... ;;D

Thanks for the input guys. It might not be a good idea to do the benefit with the convention.
One thing I know for SURE after still feeling the egg dripping off of my face after the ill-fated "OUCHBust 2003" - another not so good time to have a benefit concert is smack in between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays; right in the heart of flu season. Bad timing indeed. Was worth it all for me though, as I got to meet DJ (finally!!!!!!!!!!!!)

The whole reason I wanted to do a benefit to raise funds for OUCH was to give something back to an organization that gave me so much in its early inception. When I became chronic in '98 after being episodic for 12 years, it was to the extreme, and I lost everything, including my dignity as a human being. I found this site a year later and it basically saved both my life and my sanity. In 2000, I was reduced to no income and living in a friends basement. I had no money and couldn't even afford a doctors visit or meds. Elaine and Phil C. started up a medical fund for me, which was contributed to by many Clusterheads. It helped me immensely - beyond words. Once I had medical coverage and was getting back on my feet, I told Elaine to take whatever was left in the fund to help someone else who needed it. I'll tell you one thing - I have to meet Elaine! I just hope she isn't uncomfortable with a 10 minute hug.  ;)
Now I am a poor writer/musician, and as Peter and Paul said, "Silver and gold have I none, but what I have I give." So, I decided to give my time and talent. THAT is why I wanted to do a benefit for OUCH.

OUCH means alot to me. This board means alot to me.
YOU GUYS mean alot to me!

C'ya in Nashville,
Carl D
