Karla and Elaine, sorry if I was short with you - just can't seem to get my head on straight right now... can't think.... Everything is a loss... some pictures might be saved, but that's it. My house fire was the top story on the 6pm news on WISN 12 in Milwaukee - NOT the way to get attention.... Sorry if I don't make sense. Still haven't slept, and from the looks of it I won't any time soon. Firepeople were absolutely wonderful! They found my Bartholomew, alive... and found my Mona Lisa, already gone... brought her to me wrapped in my favorite sweater (she was/will be cremated in it). And when I got hit, someone found my purse and the nasal imitrex (a very useful graduation gift.... ) I don't blame anyone in my family for this: we all should have been more vigilant.... however, my son is the reason we're all alive - yet another night awake playing games... had he been asleep, he would have been dead long before the smoke detector sounded upstairs (I found out, after talking with Karla, that the downstairs smoke detector was melted by the heat from the fire and that's why it didn't work). Because of Mike's quick thinking, we're all alive (minus one very beautiful, purrific cat). Insurance investigators are going to the house tomorrow - I'm hoping that much of what was lost will be covered by insurance.... as for the computer, Ree, it's sitting in the back yard, covered with foam (just like everything else that was in the back of the house). Thank you all SO much for caring... sorry I was so long-winded... guess I was finally ready to talk about it.... not looking forward to when it HITS me, 'cause it really hasn't yet.... hugs to all of you, and GET SMOKE DETECTORS!! So sorry to hear about your cat :( Mike and I have lost family to fire, also because of a defective smoke detector. You're VERY blessed that your Mike was awake. (sound familiar??) firemen/women said today that fire was well underway when we got out... another 5 minutes and we might not have made it... trying to keep only positives in my mind: -someone's watching over us.... -all humans are alive and weren't hurt at all -one cat is alive and well; the other one died very quickly and is in kitty heaven with all the treats and face rubs and cashmere sweaters she can handle... -son saved our lives, and tried to go back for the cats (as did me and daughter) -last CH: during the fire.... only 2 small shadows since... no appetite so not eating much (i can stand to lose a few pounds) -structure is still standing so we can get some important items (trophies, pictures) out of two of the rooms (entire west and most of north side of upper floors have caved in to some extent) -you discover who you're real friend are when this happens.... and all three of us have discovered we have more friends than we could have imagined! -since son will NEVER drive my newer used Saab, won't have to worry about son driving.... -only one car to insure, with me as primary driver -and as my sis said when she heard about the hole in the back wall of my house: well, you said you were gonna rip a hole in the back of the house and put in french doors! heard from insurance. will be meeting with them tomorrow at the house to inventory, etc. they will cover reasonable living expenses until I rebuild, and will reimburse me for reasonable expenses incurred (toiletries, clothing, etc.... )... gonna ask about medication because my imitrex is toasted, literally, as are all my other meds... Thank you to everyone. I cannot express how much all this means to me.... |

If ya need anything inparticular jus say so Pam Hang in there.....glad 'boy child' is doin ok after that wreck.......good grief !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
