Title: O2 tank problem... Post by chronic_chic on Jan 14th, 2004, 3:04am Hi...I might just be an idiot here (no comment), but I can't get my O2 tank working right. I tightened the first pin on the regulator so that it was hooked onto the new tank, and then I go to loosen the little screw part at the top and the thing starts leaking out the O2 like crazy. I don't know what in heck I'm doing wrong, but I need it!!!! Any ideas to help? Thanks... Lizzie, who is currently a moron in pain... |

Post by Not4Hire on Jan 14th, 2004, 7:19am if yer using the *E* style regulator, make sure the little flat plastic ring with the hole in it (a little smaller than a dime) is in place. It's kinda like a washer and if missing, will let yer gas out..... good luck! notfer |

Post by chronic_chic on Jan 14th, 2004, 7:52am thanks guys...i need to take a look at it today or else have someone with a stronger hand try to tighten the screw because i thought it was all on correctly. the hit got so bad, i couldn't fiddle with it, so i wound up going for the ice pack and pacing the flipping living room....ok i just have to say..it's probably a bad idea to pace a living room in the dark when you're in severe pain! I think i walked into at least 6 different objects...which only made me swear more...grrrr sometimes the O2 is helping the hits, sometimes not...really gotta figure it out BEFORE it comes along though.... i'll look again after my firrst class... take care and PF ~Lizzie |

Either the gasket that fits between the regulator and tank is missing allowing the O2 to leak out around the place where the two meet or, if you're a dummy like me, you fiddle with the regulator and unknowingly loosen the seat of the reg. It's the round raised lip part that mates up to the tank. It lets gas leak out around the seat even if the gasket is in place. |

Whatever the hell.....so long as the mask works..I'm using it...I'll turn it off so it doesn't waste between uses...getting hit too hard to care right now... ~Lizzie |

Post by chronic_chic on Jan 14th, 2004, 2:55pm very good point jonny...see my pain is making me dumb! i've had 5 years of science classes and i can't think of this on my own? LMAO well i've been sitting next to the tank for awhile now, and it appears to be ok now, and the guage hasn't moved a bit, so i think it's not leaking. whatever the problem was, it must be tight enough now. i live in a college student apartment complex...i don't think my 3 roommates would appreciate losing our apartment due to an O2 explosion...nor would the other 11 apartments just in our building alone! maintenance just did a random check and didn't comment on the fact that i have the tanks...i was surprised. they did, however, comment on the fact that my roommates on the other half of the apartment ripped their smoke detector off the wall. (i forgot about that! my roommate on my half of the apartment and i still have ours fully functional, but we think they were dumb as hell to break theirs....they will notice a fire when it is in full blaze just because they got annoyed when it went off once!) college kids = not the brightest crayons in the box sometimes! *sigh* ~Lizzie |

Title: Re: O2 tank problem... Post by ClusterChuck on Jan 14th, 2004, 3:04pm A good way to detect leaks is to spray Windex, or Fantastic, or any soapy mixture onto all the connections. If there is a leak, it will bubble out. Like Jonny says, FIX IT!!! Chuck BTW, the trick with Windex also works great in finding leaks in your car or bike tires! - Hints From |

Maintenance is bringing us a new smoke detector...they got mad because the painters painted the old one to the wall, which was why it got ripped in half when my roommate tried to shut it up! LOL OOPs! |
