Title: what is the knot? Post by achinghead on Mar 20th, 2003, 7:41am As michaelc had asked.. what is that knot that appears in the back of the neck during CH's.. I too have it appear and when pressed.. as I do alot during a CH... it has excruciating pain, and at times actually gets me sick at my stomach.. :o I would think it has something to do with the nerves or vessels going up the right side of my head. It seems that it would be some kind of pressure point too.. I did look through a few pages of past posts but really havent seen anything specific on it. Can anyone explain this as Im sure michaelc and I arent the only ones that are curious and experience this. Thanks Guys |

Title: Re: what is the knot? Post by Bob P on Mar 20th, 2003, 8:47am Doc Robinson stated, at the Vancouver convention last year, that this is the area where the trigeminal ganglion (re junction with other nerves) is located. Near the base of the skull. He assumed this was the area that most of us refer to as the lump or knot in the back of the neck. See you guys, it pays to attend the convention. Get those registrations in the mail. |

Title: Re: what is the knot? Post by Mark C on Mar 20th, 2003, 12:47pm Correct as usual Bob. It is fifth in a group of twelve. Here (http://www.amershamhealth.com/medcyclopaedia/Volume%20II/cranial%20nerve.asp) is a link to some cool medical imaging of the area. I get the "knot" too, lasts the whole cycle. PFDAN's Mark |

Title: Re: what is the knot? Post by michaelc on Mar 20th, 2003, 3:12pm Im not sure my knot is the "trigeminal ganglion" For one thing mine is not at the base of my neck and it's not in the center. my knot is about 1/2 way between the base of my skull and the place where my neck meets my shoulders. about 1.5 inches to the right side. the lump has been there even before my ECH manifested, i can remeber noticing it as early as 17. i can always feel it there as a tiny lump, but when it's cluster time i feel it harden. Also sometimes when im NOT having CH pain i feel it swell up too |
