Title: common for headaches to shrink in severity
Post by sgarner on Mar 18th, 2003, 4:59pm
I have recently been diagnosed with episodic cluster headaches.  Actually I have had them over the years they have just recently become very severe.  Anyways my new doctor (Dr. Ford - at the Ford Headache clinic) placed me on verapmil 240SR twice a day and 60 mg of prednisone (decreasing 5mg  each day) First dosage was Thursday and Friday night was the last Shaq-size headache.  I am experiencing what I feel are like are these headaches coming on but they are very mild compared to the "normal headache " I have experienced with the clusters.

Is this normal or am I going crazy?

The meds are working!!!!!!!!! One thing, just in case this happens to you....

It takes a week or two, in my experience, for the verapamil at 480mg a day to really work. So if the beast comes to visit why you are tapering down on the prednisone don't get discouraged, it doesn't necessarily mean that the verap. isn't working or won't work. You might just need to give it more time. O2 is my best abortive btw. Be sure to check into that for yourself. Hopefully it will work as good for you as it does for me.
Wishing everyday a PFD.
Karen
