Title: Gotta Love the Rx Companies Post by TomM on Mar 17th, 2003, 8:06am Well, we changed Rx palns @ work on Jan 1, 2003 and the new company, Eckerd Health Services, informed my wife, via the pharmacist, that they only allow 2 refils of Imetrex per 28 days! That's 12 nasal sprays in 28 days, folks. Holy cow, I can go through 2 boxes of Trex in a few days but luckily I am at the end of my cycle. :) So here is the question: Who knows how to get around the Rx companys' policy? TomM |

Title: Re: Gotta Love the Rx Companies Post by Bob P on Mar 17th, 2003, 9:17am Get your doc to keep the perscription in force all the time. Keep getting the thing refilled even when you are out of cycle. Stockpile for the next cluster. |

Title: Re: Gotta Love the Rx Companies Post by TomM on Mar 17th, 2003, 9:59am I did have a stock pile but went through that this cycle. Gotta love the rocket scientist in the ivory tower who declared "2 refils per 28 days". It's those people I would inflict this pain onto given the chance. But, I should be thankful I have an Rx plan because some on this board do not. So, I am thankful. :D Luckly I'm at the end of my cycle. This new plan makes it harder to stockpile; I'll just have to be more vigilant. TomM 8) |

Title: Re: Gotta Love the Rx Companies Post by cootie on Mar 17th, 2003, 11:25am Yes Tom we also went thru that crap with the insruence co....I asked the board this same question and got some good info. I did call my doc with the insurence co's 'hotline for physicians only' and he called and explained we needed more then 9 pills per script.....that's "all" we were alowed at first ! So we were allowed 27 per script but only 2 scripts a month like your dealing with. Since it was better then 9 we were glad for that and had to pay out of our own pockets for more then two scripts a month. At least we could get it.......even tho insurence wouldn't pay......and this last cycle was 7 weeks but was a rough haul ! Good luck to ya.......Pam-Coots-insurence-shy |

Title: Re: Gotta Love the Rx Companies Post by Roxy on Mar 17th, 2003, 12:04pm Last week I thought I was just way too lucky....getting my trex vials refilled.....and I was. The pharmacy called and wanted them back. They had screwed up and refilled when the insurance company had said no. They wanted them back, so that they didn't have to eat the cost. sigh.....guess I'm back to just 5 vials a month. :'( |

Title: Re: Gotta Love the Rx Companies Post by Roxy on Mar 17th, 2003, 1:01pm Don't worry Pam.....I just smiled and said, 'Sorry...all gone' ;D ;). My pharmacist now cringes when he sees me coming. It won't matter to the insurance co., they didn't pay for this last bunch. I am having an ongoing conversation between my neuro and insurance co., trying to get more of the darn stuff......we'll just have to wait and see what happens :-/. |

Title: Re: Gotta Love the Rx Companies Post by TomM on Mar 17th, 2003, 1:18pm Pam--The Rx was still valid so the pharmacy offered to sell them for $149.00 but was cheaper than the CVS up the road that charged me $179.99 because they were too lazy to call the new insurance company to find out if the Rx was approved. My spousal unit, being very dilligent, called me asked if I wanted to pay out of pocket. No Way--I'm at the end of my cycle. :) Roxy--The pharamcy is making a killing on these and so are the drug comapnies! Imitrex is made by ONE company; there is no generic. GSK is making a killing on them. BTW--GSK is a client of the firm I work for... so is Eli Lilly, Elan Pharmacueticals and others. You'd think I'd have an in somehow but I don't. >:( Thanks for the tips. TomM 8) |

Title: Re: Gotta Love the Rx Companies Post by Opus on Mar 17th, 2003, 4:07pm Tom M, Try this, It worked for me. I got this from the OUCH web site Need More Imitrex? If you need more Imitrex then your insurance company will provide and your doctor is willing to prescribe it, you can contact Glaxo Smith Kline directly, They have a division called "Reimbursement Resource Center" ( the name implies you have to pay up front, but that is not the case), Call them at 1-800-745-2967 option #4, give them the information they ask for, your doctor's name & number, insurance company info, etc. and they will assign you a case worker who will contact you insurance company and hopefully get them to increase the number of doses. |
