Title: New to CH
Post by tazmaniandevil_man on Mar 11th, 2003, 6:34pm
sparkyd99@yahoo.com

Hi all!

My name is Dan and I was diagnosed with CH about 14 months ago.  Soon after the diagnosis I stopped having CH's.  Then about 10 days ago, they came back in a big way!!  For the last 10 days I have been lucky to get 3 hours of uninterrupted sleep before the beast wakes me up.  I am awake for about an hour before the beast subsides and I can go back to sleep.  The problem is I wake up a couple hours later and the beast is back.  I have been to my family doctor and have tried Imitrex shots and pills, Midrin, and Ultram.  None of these medications seems to do anything.  It is to the point that I am afraid to go to sleep because I know what is awaiting me in a few hours.  If anyone has any suggestions that would help me, it would be very appreciative.

I'm new to posting like this, so if I didn't post something correctly, I'm sorry.

Thanks for reading,

Dan

Welcome to the world of insomniacs Dan!

There are some on the board that are lucky enough to get a decent nights sleep, but no on who is chronic or in cycle EVER likes to go to sleep.  Sleep is not our friend.

Read up everything you can on the site, and then go join OUCH.  Get in touch with your Dr. and try to get some 02.....02 is the best abortive there is.

PFDAN,
Tracey

Hi Dan and welcome to our world.
Sorry your in such pain, we all can sympathize with ya there. Lots of people here swear by using 02, have you tried it yet? I'm sure others will follow with some other advice for you. Look around, you will learn alot in here.
Take care,
suzy

Hey Dan Dude,

Try Dramamine (motion stuff) for sleeping, it will keep you from going into REM sleep where the beast lives.

02, Bro........Do it!!!!

Welcome to the club and stick around. We've all been there. I had a little luck sleeping in a recliner. It would eliminate at least one per night.

Hi Dan welcome to clusterville.   I wish I could offer advice but no meds ever worked for me.   Take the sleep when you can. even in short bursts.   What little rest you get is needed for the battles, even though you get awakened.         The collective wisdom here is great. What works for some wont work for others. Try the o2.

Hi Dan...  welcome to the group.  There's lots of great information here to read up on - especially with all the links over to the left.  There's very few of us that know what sleep is when we're in cycle.   ::)  Are you taking any preventatives?  Most people here can swear by verapamil and O2.  I can't help ya with the abortives though, my neuro has me on the Imitrex.

Hello and welcome!

I agree with Maggie.  Have you tried any preventatives?  I take verapamil 360 mg's a day and lithium (shoot...can't remember the dosage!  LOL)  Anyhoo...this combo works great for me.
Regarding sleep, when I'm in cycle, I take a 2.5 mg Amerge before bedtime.  It allows me to sleep through the night.  You may want to consider that.  Jonny's suggestion of dramamine is excellent as well, but you can't do that too often...REM sleep is important!

Good luck
Ann
