Title: I'm new here too....
Post by Strbill on Mar 5th, 2003, 2:25pm
What a discovery!  A web site devoted to this pained minority.  I've gone the route of neurologist, brain scan, dentist, eye exam, etc..years ago.  Got hooked on Fiorinal (didn't work) in my 20"s, got off it after some years...wasn't prescibed O2 until 5 years ago after I practially begged my doctor to give it a try.  Most of you can realize the "miracle" that happened when I tried it for the first time!  MY GOD IN 5 MINUTES IT WAS GONE!  Have gotten it every episode now and works 95% of the time..not always so fast but the relief is great.  I'm on my 4th E tank now(3rd week of this episode) with 2 in reserve.
Not usually an e-chatterer but for this group I couldn't help but saying HI.

Glad you took the time to search us out and let us know a little about your situation.  Great that O2 works for you to ease the pain.  For me it did nothing.  Plan to try it again during another cycle.
What are you taking as a preventative?

Glad you found us.  Sorry you needed to.  Glad you're here.  Stick around, chime in, give and receive.

Welcome strbill,

Everytime I read a a first post, I am amazed how easy it is to relate.  It seems most of us have gone exactly the same route, tried different stuff that didn't work and we finally end up here with the best info and the best support you could hope for.

FYI, I was also on Fiorinal unsuccessfully for a few years until I had a major nose bleed in a cabin in the middle of the woods. My blood was so thin, I lost almost a half gallon of it.  That was it for me...

As usual, sorry you had to come here... but you are at the right place!  Stick around...

Thank you for all the welcomes.  Just so happens that after my post I had one....at work yet which is rare.   45 min. and no oxygen....so I go outside breath heavy, pace, and drip and run on the left side as usual.
I do find it amazing the behavioral similarities we have when dealing with the PAIN.  Facinating.  It's "comforting" to realize my personal, bizarre jirations in trying to escape the PAIN are in fact run-of-the-mill.
In my third week of the cycle now after almost two years without.  I take no preventatives now, but am getting quit an education in what's out there and working for some.
I'll keep reading and thanks again.

welcome bill......glad yer having luck with the o2....if I may, please tell us "how" you administer it (details like mask type/ liters per minute/ length of use/ whatever else)......and how you got "on" to this excellent abortive.....

the feeling that you describe: finding a "sanctuary" where we speak your language of pain....it IS amazing, no?

GYFU-SYH: glad you found us-sorry you're here.....

I use a mask, 6-8 lpm, for 5 to 10 mins. Sometimes when intense (what's a kip?) I will breathe through nose and sort of gasp through my mouth.
Back in the 70's I bought a book called "More that two asprin." by a Dr. Diamond...O2 was mentioned in the CH chapter, but I didn't consider it feasable.  Well, 20 years later and still not finding "My thing" to handle the CH's, I was finally "angry?" enough to push for a try.  I believe it was after an exeptionally long and painful episode.
When they first started (I was 17), I'd have two cycles spring and fall per year......about the last 10 or so years it's just been around springtime for 6-8 weeks...so I'm not really interested in finding a preventative....
At the first sign I can get the oxygen by the next day and its managable..........My heart goes out to you all who have them more often than I.

Welcome Bill,
Sorry about the pain but this is the best place to be if you're a clusterhead. There's tons of good info here.
the Kip scale is the universal way to rate the intensity of our headaches.
check it out.

Just wanted to say hello, and welcome!

A lot of newbies in the past few weeks.. that's kinda a good thing, and a bad thing.. good that people are finding this place, bad that there are more people out there with these beasts..

glad you found this place!!

give me a while to figure out who's who!!  I'm so confused right now!
